I use a Kyocera FS-1020 - the 'low toner' warning kicked in about 6 months ago but I'm still on the starter cartridge. Damn thing lasts forever, great machine and very easy to use with a Mac on a network due to supporting Bonjour and Appletalk.

Never said they were the right thing - just an option. A Good dye-sub printer gives the best most "real photo" feel compared to other technologies... but uses alot of power, wastes dye and can take a while.
Personally I wouldn't own one, but thought I'd let the poster know they exist.
Regards,
Shane.

It seems that laser printers are the new bubblejet. I just bought a Samsung CL300N after weighing this up for a while. I've use a lot of high end Xerox colour digital printers at my previous work and just wanted something reasonable for home. The Samsung was on 'special' at Harvey's for $299 (actually it was $399 but the guy so kindly let me have it for $100 off...hmmm), but strangely enough a full set of genuine replacement toners is $249. Yes they're using the same inkjet technique of shifting the cost of the printer onto the consumables.
You can either buy a more expensive printer (with better quality) and the toners might be a bit less but it really depends what you're going to be printing on it. I agree with others that you're better off getting your photos printed for 15c each (or get an iPhoto book now) that trying to do them at home. But for general document printing a low-end laser (remember they're clocked at 5% coverage, and when was the last time you printed a page with only that much toner / ink) is not too bad.
At least you don't have to worry about blocked heads and ink smears....

Canon Pixma MP500 All-in-one.
Suits me, fine, doesn't do to bad a job of photos either.
Although, a professional printer will always beat a hybrid.

Kyocer c5015n is hands down the most economical to run. be prepared for around $740 purchase yet after that $130 per toner but the yield is 4000 pages per color and 6000 for black - excellent quality.
I have a Kyo FS920 mono which is unbelievably cheap to run and wish I'd gone with the c5015n for my color laser instead of the Oki c3300 which, whilst an excellent printer, is rather expensive on the toner - $60 per color but yields only 1000 pages - just.
the initial purchase price was $460 for the Oki v $740 for the Kyocera.
should have bit the bullet and be enjoying the saving now :sighs:

a Kyocera 3900n and an Oki 3200n. Both work well.
I'm looking for a good ink jet printer with a network connection, but can't find one anywhere.

Halledise You can also get high capacity cartridges, from memory they are good for 5000 - 6000 copies. Can't remember the cost though.

I bought mine from a local supplier, but unfortunately their shop burnt down and they never reopened. I have not had to purchase a cartridge since, so I hope I can find somewhere that can supply.

There was a canon colour laser in a catalogue with wireless networking for $280 after a $200 cash back. Not sure how mac friendly?
I'll try and find the model and add it to the post later...

Hi Guys,
I just picked up the Brother HL-5250DN and am very happy. Setup was a breeze. It needed to restart computer though to install driver.
I got it mostly for the automatic duplex feature. Very impressed. Though the documentation is very PC-centric, but works fine with macs. The Duplex feature is under the Layout menu when you go the print menu. There are options for 2-sided printing. Took me a while to find out where it was because the manual only showed how to do it under Windows XP!

where from?
the printer itself is as slow as a wet week until the 1st page comes thru, then it stutters along reasonably well.
I wish printer manufacturers wouldn't bull sh*t so much with their claims and just be fair dinkum.
guess that's asking too much

Bubble, laser, inkjet or whatever - so long as I get my print, I'm happy as Larry

Just got myself one of the sexiest multifunction mono laser Samsung SCX 4500. Purely for its design. $150 off the rrp through online store. Black text print and photo scan are good. Grey scale printing is not that good, as reviewed.
