We have a Canon Pixma MP170 (printer, scanner, photocopier). Not sure of the price but it works great and gets outs every little bit of ink it can.

Wow - cool guys. Funny how you can post a topic before lunch, and come back after it and find it full of useful postings.

I am thinking along the lines of a colour laserjet, personally want something economical to run but good quality.

cheers, Glen!

I've got an HP OfficeJet 5610 for my color inkjet - prints cleanly and clearly no matter how long I let it sit...

For B&W, I've an HP LaserJet 4V, since I can't seem to kill it.

If I want better color, I bring it to work and run it on the Canon Color ImageRunner 3220.

Been using Epson for years on a PC and still use it since Switching. My latest one (2yrs old) is RX510. Got a RX690 for the GF. Never had any problems and I always use genuine Epson inks.

Just bought a Samsung ML-2010 Mono Laser Printer from DSE for $74. Setup was very easy and everything is working as it should (on Tiger). These were reviewed in MacWorld 09/2007 and were rrp $229 with a four and half star rating. Obviously the discounted price is because it's the '07 models.

I have a Lexmark E230 B&W laser printer. Works like a charm, the toner lasts for a year at a time, and the quality is great. No complaints whatsoever, though I had troubles getting Leopard to print to it over ethernet via a 3rd-party wireless print server. (I use USB and will try again when my Time Capsule arrives).

What's nuts is having a lot of labs, with pricey gear, not having any clue as to what colour management is. But the labs that are C.M.'d are great!
I use a Docuprint C2100 for col laser after having had a couple cheap and useful b/W lasers (an epson and a brother). It's good as a business laser but if you expect great colours don't buy one.
I also have the Epson 2100 and Epson 3800 ink jet printers - col managed workflow - the 3800 esp is an outstanding printer and seems to be essentially troublefree.
So I use my Col Laser for printing business documents. I print up to A2 quite regularly on the 3800 - my own photography for clients - it paid for itself very quickly.

I was having a look on ebay for a A3 colour laser and saw a Lexmark (I think) for $350 (second hand). I thought it seemed like a good deal until I looked at the cost of replacing the toners - 4 Toner Cartridges at $450 EACH!!!!
I would hate to have to replace a drum if that is what the toners cost....

Main thing about Colour Laser Printers is they are good for documents, and light desktop publishing, but if you want to print photos at home or want good colour reproduction, they are very poor for that purpose.

Personally I'd get a B&W laser printer nice and cheaply, and then get a low cost inkjet for your colour work.

If you want good photos then either get a dye-sublimation printer, or do as others have said and go to Harvey Norman or similar and get them printed.

I've had a new printer every year for the past 7 years, and the one I've kept (for now) is the HP C6180 - you never really know how great it is to have a copier/scanner/fax along with your printer. You may not need it all the time, but it's fantastic that one time you really do need it.

5 cartridge printer so only $13-$15 per cartridge when they run out (and they run out at very different times) so this saves me money over the combined "colour cartridges" of many other printers.

Regards,
Shane.

Underwhelming, overpriced and terribly wasteful.

Xerox' new dye-sub Phaser 8860 and 8860MFP printer are much, much better - and use a lot less ink. According to them, it's 2x less expensive than equivalent laser printers from other makers, making them as affordable as black & white, the ink sticks produce 90% less waste than comparable color laser products and melt at a lower temp, reducing energy consumption by 14%.

Having said that, I don't know anyone who has the new one to verify any of that info

I also use a Lexmark Laser Printer, Optra S2450 Mono, scored it from work for free, its a big mother but its fast and works perfect with Leopard (also came with a lifetime of toner's & drums)... For anything colour I use my old trusty Canon S520 or Canon Selphy Photo Printer..
