Printer problems with Leopard

My wife just bought a new Macbook running Leopard and can't seem to install our Canon IP3000 printer. We have run the driver install a number of times but when we try to install the printer in System Preferences we can't find the drivers for the printer, even when we run the Auto-detect or select printer driver. Needless to say, my wife is currently cursing Macs and rueing the day she sold her old iBook and bought the new Macbook. Anyone here who can help rebuild and restore her previous love and devotion to all things Mac by solving this dilemma?

I can't really get this answer from your post so I may as well confirm. You have gone into System Preferences>Printers then clicked on the little "+" and no results appeared?

Is the printer wired directly to the MacBook, or is it running through a router?

Ricky.

This is from Mac Help - hope it does help

Mac OS X comes with software that makes most printers compatible with your Mac. However, if you’re adding a printer and see “Driver not installed,” you may need to install software for the printer or specify the type of printer you’re using.

Here are some ways to install and update your printer’s software:

Choose Apple menu > Software Update. Software Update downloads and installs updates for any printer that’s in your printers list, connected to one of your computer’s USB ports, or available to your printer over Bonjour.

If you chose not to install all the printer drivers when you installed Mac OS X on your computer, do so now. To finish installing software for your printer, insert the Mac OS X Install disc and install the packages you want.

If you manage the printer, look for the software at the printer manufacturer’s website. After you download the software, follow the included installation instructions.

Install the software that came with the printer.

If your printer came with a disc, insert it in your disc drive. Find the software installer for the printer and open it. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the software. Here’s how to install printer software or specify your printer’s type:

Download the latest software using the Software Update command, the website for the printer’s manufacturer, or the discs that came with the printer. Then try to add your printer again.

Installing and updating printer software

Try to add the printer again. When you see the Add Printer dialog, choose “Select the driver to use” from the Print Using pop-up menu, and then select the driver for your printer.

I am able to add the correct printer in System Preferences>Printers by selecting + but when it asks "Print using:" it won't Auto-select the drivers. When I choose to find file I get a list of drivers (which does have the drivers for this printer although with "Gutenprint v5.1.3" written after the driver name- we've never seen this before ). The printer will print A4 pages but won't recognise the CD Tray settings, which is what this printer is mainly used for- printing CD and DVD's. No matter what we do, re-installing tthe drivers from the install CD or installing new drivers from the Canon website we still can't print to the CD tray.

BTW the printer is running through a router.

It seems like you are doing everything correctly. All I can think of now would try setting up the printer with it directly connected to the computer.

Good luck.
