Airport Extreme Reliability HELP TO SET UP NEEDED

Hi all,
I have an Airport Extreme sitting in my cart which I was about to purchase. I then saw some of the reviews about unreliability and drop outs. Also having to frequently reset it, etc. I am wondering if anyone here could give me their first hand experience on how good/reliable they are.
Also is this the kind of thing that may get any kind of update in few weeks? If not Ill buy now but I dont want to buy it if its not going to be as good as what I have (which is just a simple Belkin a/b/g router)
It will be connected to a Desktop PC running Vista and I will be using my Macbook (soon to be Macbook Pro) wirelessly with it. Id also like our other 2 PCs to connect wirelessly to it also.

Just thought Id double check before purchasing as I dont want to regret upgrading what I have.

Thanks

mine worked flawlessly for hours, sometimes days, occasionally even weeks at a time without a reset until just a few weeks out of warranty then died.
unfortunately I replaced it with an eyehome (I was not using it for wireless networking as I have a wireless router) which has all its own problems.

I have had no issues with mine (its the first one released - without GB ethernet), its solid as a rock compared to the DLink, Netgear and Belkin routers I have had in the past!

Mind you I haven't had many PC's wirelessly connected to it

Ok So I ordered one from Apple and have no luck at all connecting it. If I cant get it to work Ill just use my old Belkin router and send this one back because I thought it would be easy!

Ok so far I just took the plugs from my belkin and put them in the Airport. (ie the cable to the modem and the cable to the PC) The green light is on and the setup told me it was ready to connect to the internet. When I open a webpage is has no connection and my email cannot send/receive. I put the plugs back into the Belkin - works again no problem.
I watched the modem when I put the plugs into the Airport and the "Activity" light goes off. Soon as I put it into my Belkin it goes back on so the modem and net connection work ok, its just getting airport to let me onto the net when theyre plugged in. I dont know how to get the activiti light to go on when I plug into airport. I have reset the modem, the airport express and Im having no luck. I now have it plugged back into my Belkin. I am running Vista and it is a Windows machine Main reason I got this router was to use the 802.11n connection on my Macbook.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as Ive been working on it since it arrived at 8:30am.

Are both routers on the same subnet ie. 10.0.1.* or 192.168.2.*? are both routers configured to issue dhcp ip addresses? (you should only have one doing it)

I've had mine a few months now. One issue setting it up which was on my behalf (ISP issue) and it's run perfectly since without a reset. I've got my iMac G5, iPod touch and my housemate's nasty pc laptop connected to it wirelessly and they all have a decent connection. I only ever reset my belkin modem once a month or if the net slows down but yeah, haven't had to touch my airport extreme since. It was worth it considering I now don't have to trip over and search for spare ethernet cables.

My problem setting up was similar to what you have.. my fix was to remove a manual proxy I had put in the network settings that my ISP had told me.

I dont have both routers connected at the same time. They are both plugged into the power points but I swap the cable over to set up the new one.
I am now getting the "activity" light as I do with my Belkin but I am not able to view webpages or receive emails.
I open the network on Vista with the Belkin connected it shows the PC, Network and the Internet. When I do it with the Airport it has a cross between the network and the internet and the icon is greyed. There is something stopping it using the internet when its hooked up.

The Airport is not an ADSL router you still need a router/modem connected to the phone line.

I have cable. I have the cable modem plugged into the wall and then theres a cable into the Belkin router and then a cable from there to the computer. I have just taken out the belkin router from between the pc and cable modem and added the airport which hasnt hooked up as simple as I had expected.

Sol,

If you still have no luck PM me and I can run through a detailed set up as I have cable then AEBS then switch then all my computers.

I'll be home later tonight if you still require assistance.

Cheers
