Non-USB printer on Airport Express - possible?

I have an HP 9040 printer. It only has a network port (cat-5 sort) - no USB. Is it possible to connect it to the network port on an Airport Express. The Airport express is setup on my Airport Extreme network. The HP 9040 has an inbuilt print server. I have connected it all up, and print to the IP address of the Airport express, but it gives the message that the IP address is busy and hence doesnt work, Thanks in advance,

No idea, sorry.

What happens when you ping it? I'd imagine that the printer's DCHP and the Airport's DCHP would be conflicting with each other... Could you try turning off the Airport's DCHP?

Realistically, I don't think it's possible.

Sometimes, when you ping networked printers, they die.

LOL!

It will work just like any other network printer, of course.
You should be printing to the IP of the printer, not the APX. Make sure you have the HP drivers installed for the printer, and then add it the Print Centre (10.4) or Print & Fax System Preference (10.5). All you need to know it the IP address, and you will probably need to select HP JetDirect as the protocol.

Thanks - I have just tried this - it still says "Network host IPaddress is busy"

Can you see the printer listed in the connected devices section when you use the AirPort Admin utility?

make sure the printer and the airport both have seperate IP addresses, in reality you should not be concerned at all about the airports printer capabilities

Um. Unless you set up static IPs they're not going to have separate IP addresses. If the Express is extending your wireless network from your Extreme, then it's ethernet port is disabled.. There's no way you can plug it into the Express.

Am I missing something here? Why can't you just plug it into the Extreme? Astr0b0y's advice about having all the software installed is spot on.
