Setting up a wireless bridge with a Belkin AP and Airport Express

So long story short. Leopard with wireless on a macbook cause (for me and lots of other folks) Kernal panics left right and centre when the airport card is under heavy load

I thought getting an airport and setting it up as a wireless bridge my me a good stop gap measure

Setup like this

MacBook <-> Airport Express (via ethernet) <-> Belkin Wireless Access Point (via wireless bridge)

I have turned off wireless on my macbook, wireless network is WPA protected.

I would have thought in theory my macbook could connect to the wireless network via the Aiport Express and be assigned an IP address from my Belkin AP. I am afterall in bridge mode.

But the Airport doesn't seem to want to do this and will refuse to connect to the AP in bridge mode.

Anyone have any suggestions? The manual doesn't have an example of such a configuration but I would have thought it's something pretty common to do

Thanks in advance
