time machine
just bought a WD external drive, time machine backed up hard drive, but it seems to have only backed up "mactinosh HD" - i cant seem to find a directory called movies....

soo....

can you just back up a folder or does the whole hard drive need to be backed up

Well you can select the folders you do NOT want to back up on a hard drive. For me I disabled movies because of how often its contents change, 200GB of backup space can disappear in a matter of days.

i know movies must be some where, but just cant locate it on the time machine back up

It'll be in "users".

For some reason spotlight doesn't seem to index everything in Timemachine either.
