Hard drive

My hard drive shat itself in my iBook G4. Is it fix-able, or is it junk? If it is fix-able, where does one go to get it fixed?

It's gone. HDDs aren't designed to be fixed once they are broken.

I guess the question has to be... do you mean "is my iBook fixable" or "is my hard drive fixable."

iBook - probably... HDD - not likely - never say never - just expect a huge repair bill, even if they don't fix it.

What's happened with it? Does it just make strange noises and fail to boot, or did you pour kerosene over it and set it alight? I'm just not sure of the problem as to whether the drive can be restored (ie. with DiskWarrier) or whether it's self-destructed.

It wouldn't start up. Would only boot pat of the way, then spinning beach ball of death. Can Firewire it from my MBP, but won't start on it's own. Put the original HDD back it in and that works ok. So I guess it is fried. And there was no kerosene accident, it just wouldn't fire up one day. Thought it might be a logic board, but that appears to be ok....

So, when you mount the disc in target mode on your MBP, it mounts and all?
