UK power cord for Mac Mini
Hi
Not sure whether to post this here on in WTB but anyway...
Here's the deal. I have an Australian Mac Mini which I'm giving to my parents for Xmas. The Mac Mini has an external power brick and a 3 pin connector which goes between the power brick and the mains. I've a few options, AU->UK generic adaptor, buy a whole new power brick and cables. However what I'd like to do is just get a new 3 pin -> mains cable as this should be the cheapest and most elegant option. Does anybody have one or know where to get one from? I can't see them listed on the Apple UK website, although I think they are the same ones used on the first LCD iMacs which might make things a bit easier. Alternatively is this a standard type of power cable I might be able to pick up somewhere else Maplins/Dick Smiths etc. I personally haven't seen this type of 3 pin connector on any non Apple products.
Thanks for any tips

It's not a standard connector, so you'd need to either put up with a UK-to-AU prong-adaptor, or consult an English Apple service centre and obtain a suitable cord as a service-spare ... a whole new powersupply won't be needed, as the unit is a switchmode type, besides, the Brit 220V is very close to our own 240V, and the PSU can cope with that quite comfortably.

I thought that was a standard Mickey Mouse connector on the mini's power brick

I know the PSU will work in the UK. It's just a question of if and where I can get the cable. I've looked at Apple's UK store and ebay but no luck so far. Nobody coming back from the UK with a cable they no longer require?

Gothika, I may have one.... Female 3-pin to 2 blades and round pin male? I will check my shed/office in the morning, if that is what you are after. If I have it and it is what you want, I will mail it to you.
Till tomorrow.

Get a AU->UK generic adaptor. Low cost and little effort.
My personal preference in dealing with this type of problem is to get the UK head, cut open the cable, do a bit of DIY to fit UK head onto existing cable.

OK, Gothika, this is the cable I have...

If it is the one you want, PM your address and I will mail it you.
It is a bit over 1.5m long.

The bit that goes into the wall is the wrong type, Kaizer -- it's for US wallpoints, not British ... and the other end won't fit the Mini power-supply either, as the Mini's PSU uses a proprietry connector for the mains input. I just spent 15 minutes trying to find an image of it, but no-one has been so foresighted to make one
Apple's online store do not sell the power cords separately -- as I mentioned in my original reply, the only way to get the exact cable needed is to contact a UK-based Apple Service Centre and order the Mac Mini power supply mains cable as a spare part.
Frankly, it would be cheaper to supply your folks with one of the travel-adaptors as suggested by AusMac.

Or, you could ignore all that bollocks and just buy a "clover-leaf" cable when you get to the UK. It slots straight in. I have done the exact same for the Mac Mini I bought in the US and have now given to my parents.

Just go the travel adaptor - AU-UK.
I used this and an EU for 2.5 years while living over there. Is the simplest and best solution trust me.

Here you go. Buy one of these, which as can be seen are very inexpensive.
Problem solved.

Exactly. I have a few cloverleaf cords that we use for service. Both the iMac G4 and the Mac Mini used them.
Here is a link to a UK webstore that has exactly what you want:
