It's a NexStar LX box with a Seagate formatted in FAT32 inside. I am mounting it as an SMB share, used exclusively as a media server with my iTunes library.

Can get it to work fine in USB which has allowed me to copy my backed up documents from Tiger but I'm getting no love when trying to mount it to allow my iTunes library to access it :-(

There's likely been an update to Samba in Leopard, with correspondingly new issues. Does the NexStar do any other kind of sharing, like Appletalk or NFS?

After trying and retrying it about a hundred times it randomly worked once, but now it doesn't work again anymore.

Should I try an erase and instal again and see what happens? Is anyone experiencing this problem?

Same as me; I have a dlink 323 and Finder shows it in the sidebar but when I click on a directory it doesn't show any of the files. Then one time it did. Then it didn't. I can't understand why it works sometimes and not others.

After a couple of days fiddling and googling it looks like our only hope is that it is a bug addressed in 10.5.1

Mine does FTP, you should be able to set it up via the Admin screen for the NAS. I can ftp to mine and have copied files with that. Defeats the purpose of a NAS though, hope this is fixed soon.

Might be worth checking the Console to see if any info comes up when you try and access your NAS box. Note that Apple uses the open source SAMBA software, so they are dependent on that for Windows network sharing.

Ok, I have no idea what I am doing or what this means, but this is the result in console when I try to connect to the share from the sidebar in finder:

Quote:

I get the same when I try and mount using Go --> Connect to Server.

Looks like there could be a problem but I have no idea what this means... Help?

I am having the exact same issue with my NexStar LX NAS Box and Leopard!

This must be a bug in Leopard with regards to SMB Shares...
There seems to be lots of other people reporting similar problems accessing SMB shares not only on NAS boxes but Windows PCs as well.

The thing about it is that by using smbclient on the command line in Terminal you can connect no problem to the NAS but just cannot use the Finder!
You should be able to get and put things to the NAS but have to use the command line, here are the docs for smbclient:
http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/...bclient.1.html

Report it to Apple as a bug and then hopefully they will get it fixed soon.
