I bought my Star Destroyer direct from the online Lego site, shipped in a monster box all the way from sunny Denmark. Not the cheapest option, but I'd procrastinated long enough after its release that it had all but disappeared from other online stores, and my inherent distrust of eBay ruled out that option.

I also have the AT-AT walker (same size, but before they motorised it) that I picked up purely by chance in a K-Mart one day. It was a 15% off store-wide day plus a 20% off all Lego sale, and the discounts rang up cumulatively at the register.

Been hum'ing and ha'ing about the Falcon ever since I saw it for pre-order. It's a heck of a lot of money but if history is any indication I'll cave and splurge on it eventually. In the meantime, there's a time-lapse build video of it here: http://tv.boingboing.net/2008/01/28/...rs-of-leg.html

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/ga...i?f=126969&n=0

300000 lego pieces to build an aircraft carrier 16ft long and 4ft high, paid for out of his own pocket - and he's a German IT consultant (lol!!)

according to a newspaper article he got to visit the real thing last year!

I have the collectors series X-wing which doesn't seem to be there. It was sold the same time as the Vader Tie fighter...and both were heavily reduced to clear..down to $120 from several hundred. I regretted not getting the tie fight later as they do go together....its on there but sold out.

Mine has all the opening bits including the cargo bay down below, and has gears inside that open and close the wings as well as the stand with all the X=wing info as those others do. My cat used to eat the end of the lasers though when he was a kitten so might have to replace them sometime.

You can get these: http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=8142

but I can't find the big F1's they used to have. It was a technics model and it was the best thing ever.

Those were the days... I remember my Lego just like it was yesterday...

oh yeah...
it was!
and the day before that too.

I got back into collecting it with the Star Wars releases and have at least 1 of most sets in that range. There are a few sets that were never released in Australia and then there are the exclusives which can be notoriously hard to track down.

Anybody looking to buy:
Department stores are a good source. They all discount the stuff regularly throughout the year.
Myer tend to sell above RRP but then clear out stuff cheaper than anybody else.
I picked up a Death Star II for about $380 a few months back.
Toys R Us also clear stock at big discounts - if you're quick.
Kmart and Target regularly have 20% off Lego.
Any Star Wars kits with minifigs tend to appreciate in value quickly. Just have a look at the going prices on ebay for example. There's quite a trade to be made in splitting sets and selling the minifigs and vehicles separately.

Possibly the only thing cooler is the person who built an SSD, specifically Executor, using a combination of Star Destroyer sets.

Instructions are on the web.
