Hi All,

I want to update the 30 gig disk in my G4 ibook 1.25 to something bigger. But I dont want to get a hot and noisy disk. Does any one have any recomendations to the best brand 2.5 inch disk? Preferably cool and quiet. I am looking at a 60 gig or 80 gig drive. I dont really want the fan to come on all the time, currently it is quiet and rarelly spins up.

Any Sugestions? Any one upgraded lately?

Thanks

Attila

As far as I am aware if you want quiet you'll have to stick with the 4200rpm. I upgraded to a 5400rpm HDD and late at night when all is quiet you can hear a "ssshhh" sound as the HDD spins.

I wouldn't say it runs hotter as my fan rarely comes on.

80gb 4200rpm would be ok.. after all its what shipped in my powerbook 15" 1.25ghz..

I also have a 60gb 4200rpm model.. Same manufacturer and series.. Just smaller version in a generic fw/usb2 case..

They still get warm, but certainly not loud like something with a higher rpm

I bought a 40GB Fujitsu about a year ago. I've found it to be pretty quiet - even in an external Firewire case.

Fujitsu MHT2060AT and MHT2080AT (the first one being in firewire/usb2 case and second being the drive that shipped in my powerbook).

Can't fault neither of them Thats why I bought the 60gb one, as my powerbook one was acceptable for what it does. Sure higher RPM would be nice, but the powerbook still sustains 8mb/s or higher in network ethernet file transfers.
