whats gone wrong with airport express

Hi,

I have a G4 model laptop which is compatible with the airport express card-and a WirelessG Billion Router. I installed the airport express card- everything worked fine and I was happy. Then one day for no real reason that I can work out -the wireless doesnt work. It finds the network says its connected but when I pull out the ethernet cable- im gone! Plus it now Airport only seems to work if I have the ethernet cable plugged in. I have checked that I have the latest software etc and I have.
I have checked in the settings and cant find anything...Im at a complete loss.
Does anyone have any ideas that might help me?

TIA

Bluemist.

confusing because if you were wireless you wouldn't have a ethernet cable plugged in...

Are you sure it's finding the wireless signal, and not just connecting via ethernet?

Because if you have a connection when the cable's in, and then you don't have a connection when the cable's out, well, it sounds like the connection is through the cable.

Maybe you could grab some screenshots of your Network preferences (in system prefs)?

Yes I started taking screenshots...then realised theres one thing I hadnt considered...that being that the actual airport card is dead....am going to take it out later and try putting it back in.

All I can suggest is that you restart with the ethernet cable removed.
