Hi Boys and Girls,
I've got this guy who's been getting me to help him with his new hard drive video cam (a
Sony DCR-SR300E) and his macbook. Previously he was using a nice JVC or Canon DV cassette camera with firewire; his new one records onto a 30gb hard drive and can only be accessed via USB. I think his old one got stolen and insurance replaced it with this one.
Anyway, I've been charged with helping him sort it out. He has pretty simple needs; for the time being, he just needs to take a length of footage (a continuous shot even) and burn it to a DVD.
The problem is that - while we can access the MPG files on the camera - they are demuxed or muxed or something and so there is no sound.
The way we (I) worked out to get around this was to install MPEG Streamclip, which is great - and then, either one at a time or in a batch, process his videos onto his hard drive like this :
1. Open finder, nav. to MPG movie root
2. Open MPEG StreamClip, Drag in files or a number of files (batch)
3. Export them as DV to a folder on his macbook
4. Wait a long time
5. Take those .DV files and drag them into iMovie,
6. Wait a long time
7. Drag them onto the timeline and construct his movie
8. Burn (a long time....)
What I'm looking for is - optimistically - a way to bypass steps 2-7

He's a bit of a mac/computer noob and I feel sorry that he has to go through all this crap just to burn a DVD.
I'm looking for solutions right now on google, but I'm not entirely sure I'll find what I want - I had a look last week and didn't find much.
Maybe one of you
helpful mactalkers has a better idea..?
Thanks
Jeremy
