LCD dual monitor question
Oki dok,
Well I have a question or 2 regarding LCD Monitors. I am on the hunt for a good LCD, anywhere between 20 - 24inch widescreen, one that will have dual monitor capabilty with my MacBook Pro, but ALSO, I would like i to have DVI- Analouge input to support say, a Nintendo 64, so I can connect the N64 to a RCA- DVI adapter and use the LCD as a DVD/Console viewer, and as a Secondary Monitor for my MacBook.
AND, if anyone has already got a setup like this, are their any monitor you reccomend?
Cheers in advance.

I have a Chimei CMV T38D which I think will do everything you're wanting...
Got it at MSY for a shade over $300 I think....

monitor
The Samsung 226BW got excellent reviews. It's a 22" monitor and is available for as low as $445.
There seems to be a huge price difference between 22" and 24" screens; the 24" screens are more than double the price of the 22" screens.
I'd certainly get the largest screen you can afford. It's always handy to have spare screen 'real estate'.

The Dell has a response time of 16ms? A bit high isn't it?

salve... i did plenty of research before purchasing my dell wfp2007. i dont know how to gauge response times as there are many out there that have recorded a lot lower. even though this does seem a little high, the monitor is perfect for my use. i generally use autocad, adobe suite, rhino, 3ds max, etc.... i also waited for the time when there was $130 off the full price and ended getting athe monitor, 4 years next day replacement, (forgot the price) and a diamond back gaming mouse thrown in... good prompt service. monitor is in perfect condition and is the perfect companion to the macbook pro. - i also have the monitor connected to 2 inputs - 1 pc via dvi-d and the other is the mbp - via vga cable.
in summary... A W E S O M E

Hi guys,
I do not want to bud in on your thread but I am at the moment in need of another monitor to replace my Dell 24"(as I need this for my PC/Xbox) and looking at 2 options for use on my new Mac Pro. I am tossing up if I would be best to get a pair of 22"screens or splurge and just get a Apple 23"?
I am quite happy with the Dell 24" but if I was to spend that sort of money again I would love a matching Apple screen (I know it is stuiped but hell I love them). Thing is I was looking at the price and for that I could actually get a pair of 22"screens. I thing this could be a good option but would not know what is a good brand in the 22"screens? I saw some nice Viewsonics the other day but I am not sure of these $400 22"screens against a Apple 23" what I know has good colour reproduction and all that.
Any ideas?

Be aware that a very low response time generally corresponds with a cheaper 6-bit panel, often found in the big, cheap monitors.
If you like big and cheap, go for it, but if you need proper colour reproduction, look away now.
(Oh, and if you get a Dell, do a search for coupon numbers that pop up from time to time.)

Ok so you are suggesting go with an Apple or a Dell monitor in a 23" and up?

I'd go the Dell Ultrasharp, 24" if you can afford it or 20". I might be crucified for this but I actually think the Dell looks better - love that industrial look.
It has the added bonus of being put in portrait or landscape mode as well. They are able to be raised or lowered in height, are cheaper and have a longer warranty.
I've seen the 24" go second hand with 3yr warranty left for around $700.
I'd go the Dell

I'm a Apple fanboy *waves* and the cinema display is plain sex. Don't get me wrong.. the Dell is ok- but so 1980's PC
As for Chimei - they have been hit with a PC ugly stick- the "stand" looks like its made from margarine tubs.
If you want the Apple "look" and function go Apple- if you want somthing that "works" and looks like a PC- but has more inputs than an alien hooker- go Dell.
If you don't give a shit about what it looks like and are a tight arse- go Chimei
Oh- and of course my views on these are personal
I'd go 23" Apple.

I bought two Benq 20" monitors for about $250 each from MSY, they have DVI and VGA inputs and I've run one off my macbook pro and when not using it, I connect it to my other machine for dual screen set up. They're good monitors, and great for game playing.

The N64 is going to look *terrible* on almost any computer monitor, if it even works at all. For example, the scaler on my 2007 FPW (which is fairly expensive and high quality for a 20") does not produce terribly good results with a GCN/Wii and does not seem to support the N64 input at all.

I am after good colour reproduction, and although the Apple may not be the best in the world at this. I know that it is still a good monitor for colour reproduction compared to many. I know what the dells are like (I have a 24"Dell) and they are also quite good. But I am so in love with the Apple Screen that I feel I am now falling for it!
