DVO ADC extension cable
I'm using a first gen G5 with a first gen Apple Cinema display 22"
and connect them with an ADI to DVC converter

does anyone have 1st hand experience with an extension cable
for this kind of set up or have any suggestions for a brand or re-seller?

I'd probably just grab a DVI extension cable. Dick Smith have some pretty decent cables for about $30. I never noticed a quality loss using the extension, so I'd have to say you shouldn't have any problems at all.
