wireless 802.11g range question

Been scratching around but not having any luck - trying to work out how effective wireless will be in my old flat - thick concrete walls.

Not a huge place, signal will only need to go through one wall at most over range of 10 to 15 metres. I reckon 802.11g will be fine but never had wireless before.

Is there a thread here or somewhere else that disucusses this?

Thanks,

Cal

shouldn't have an issue at all, i run a g network here with a long slender unit probably 20 meters, and can get excellent reception from the top bedroom with the airport at the other end of the house.

Have a search, there are threads that answer this question... but it shouldn't a problem... the distance you want to use it over would hardly stretch it...

You'd get better performance (and be a lot healthier) if you just ran some cables.

Wireless is not intended for continual use -- follow the thread in my signature, if you're game.

According to The Health Protection Agency in the UK the dose from sitting in a wi-fi hotspot for a year is the same as that received from a 20-minute mobile phone call

Same here - get connection anywhere in my house too, through at least 4-5 brick walls.

people, a wall may lose you 10m range, glass 20m, ... any AP should give you 250m range. so will work easily within a house, upstairs/dowstairs, .. most AP's come with an omni-directional antenna. ok, the AP's i've seen range issues with have been the Apple AP's and on top of that they don't have the facility to add an external antenna.
in my home i use one D-link 900AP+ and it gives me signal everywhere upstairs & down, across the street(abt 60m, 70% strength), ... and just with the std 4Dbi antenna(i think it is).
