MIDI & Music input for MBP

Hi all,
I am wanting to set up a little recording system with my new MBP (when I get it, LOL) and want to know what hardware/adapters I will need. I have a midi keyboard & portable cordless mike/PA system. What do I need to connect the mike and the keyboard to use with Garage Band or Audacity is my question. Do I need to buy a midi adapter or can I use the monster ilink from here:
http://www.frequency.com.au/sales/music&audio/

?
I just want to be able to mix what I play with the voices of my students coming through the mic. can I use the Griffin mic cable for the mic to connect the portable PA to the computer?

does that make sense?

Any ideas would be welcome as I am completely new to digital music.

Sounds like you need two things... an audio interface and a MIDI interface.

The audio interface gives you higher quality stereo inputs (or more) and the MIDI interface gives you at least one MIDI input and output.

Maybe something like these would be good:

MIDI: http://www.awave.com.au/product_info...b11431c18284bf
Audio: http://www.awave.com.au/product_info...b11431c18284bf

*NB: you can buy some products that do both MIDI and audio

As much as it's a nice product, may i suggest you avoid the Presonus Firebox?

As I say it is a nice product, BUT.. it will not power up on it's own unless you have an AC adaptor plugged in as well as the firewire. It has something to do with the voltage restrictions on the firewire ports of the macbook pros.

But if having an AC Adapter initially plugged in isn't an issue, then by all means consider the Firebox as an option. mine is fantastic, and has never failed me.. EVER!
