TP-Link wireless router setup

Need some help here.

I have a TP-Link WR642G wireless router

My modem is alcatel speed touch model, it has "one" 10base T/MDI-X port
which is connected to my G4's ethernet port (of which there is only one)

The router has 1 x WAN
4 x LAN ports

Can someone explain to me how I need to connect.

The only way that I could connect it was to connect the modem to the router from the
10base T/MDI-X port to the WAN on the router then a cable from one LAN to the ethernet
port on the computer.

What I want to do is have my iBook wireless but have the G4 still wired as I don't want to spend
extra for a wireless card for the G4.

Any instructions on how to wire it all up and what I need to do with network settings in the systems preferences would REALLY be appreciated.

cheers in advance

really need some help!

I have gone and purchased a crossover ethernet cable to connect my
G4 digital audio to the LAN port on the router. As this has been suggested seeing as my G4
is an older unit.

this is how it should happen is it not?

The G4 will go into any LAN port using a crossover ethernet cable.
The WAN port will connect to the Speedtouch modem.
The router will have WEP or WPA 128 bit encryption enabled via its on router webpage.
The iBook will connect to the SSID name (network name) of the router.
The router will store the configuration settings for the internet connection.

I have connected everything up as per instructions.

What should I be doing at the network settings as the directions state to set up the TCP/IP protocol to "obtain an IP address automatically".
I get stuck at the login to router stage where you enter http://192.168.1.1 in the web browser.

Is it not the case that seeing as I have my G4 wired to the LAN on the router and the router hooked up to the modem that I should be able to connect to the internet straight off.
Then only need to go through the router setup stage on the iBook to be able to go wireless?

me confused

any tips please

Hey Cactus!
Above all you dont need crosover cable for G4.

If your speedtouch in bridge mode then you must connect it to the wan port of TP-LINK.
If you speedtouch in router mode then you have to choices:
1. Still connect speedtouch to wan port of TP-LINK, make sure that you use nothing less then WPA for wireless.
2. Assign to LAN on TP-LINK a static ip from the speedtouch range and then connect the cable to the LAN port instead. G4 goes to another LAN port.

Hope it helps

Let me know if you need more info.
