usb and lan hdd simultaneous access?

im looking at getting an icecube external usb/Lan enclosure for my ps3. i intend to hook it up to the ps3 so that it can access media via usb. can i simultaneously access one of these drives from both usb and lan.

connect to the ps3 with airport extreme, and the hdd to the 'puter or router? Is that a crazy enough plan for you?

(not that I would have a clue if that would work, of course)

what i wanted to do was to use the ps3 as a basic media player by exporting movies to it from my mac. the ps3 will accept any usb drive but not a wireless link to a computer i know i can install linux but it is too much stuffing around at the moment, when there is a proper ps3 media centre distribution i will do that

Yep - attach the HDD to a router and use LAN to access it on both ends.

Would getting a usb hub and connecting the hdd to the mac and the ps3 at the same time work?

No. USB is direct access. Each machine manages the file access by itself.

With a LAN setup, all access requests are managed by the server/router.

yeah, i have the exact hard drive lan & usb2 and when i went to connect both, my imac crashed and wouldn't reboot into os x until i disconnected it.

yeah ps3 wont access network shares, ps3 with linux will, i just want to avoid that pain for now

It's not worth the effort to install linux to access media, i'd just swap the cables because it's the easiest way.
