No as we cannot get TV via iTunes in Oz so no waste of money, going foxtel instead.

I'll be getting one eventually. In the meantime I'll be ripping all my DVDs to MPEG4 (I just have to decide which is the best format).

TV via iTunes will be here eventually!
and if you knew how, you can get the ones from the US already, all be it dearer than ours would be, though I don't know what ours will be!
I can't watch what I want on Foxtel and not pay for most of the rubbish that's on there now.
So I will buy what I want to watch and watch it whenever I want on the apple tv.

Movies via iTunes will be here first. And there is no guarantee that TV episodes will be available in AU.

Well everything is always later here in Aus, I guess the Apple Tv isn't for everyone and each to their own!
But as I said before, you can still get tv shows, just have to have the knowhow, and you are still legally paying for them too!

Why not ??- you can just encode what you need - if I can watch it on my ipod i can watch it on apple tv. I have 90% of my bt stuff in itunes anyway, I never know when i wanna watch it
ffmegx even allows you to cue them up so just leave it running overnight, in the morning you'll have the tv shows ready
make sure we get a review keddi and pics to - you know what whores we are for pics of new apple gear

Yes... re-encoded versions, but not out of the box. It's long-winded and is the quality there?
As Keddi says each to their own. Make mine XBMC + LinkSys Access Point.

I ordered one, but cancelled it when they said it would not be delivered by February. I got pi$$ed off when Apple sent me the email saying it was taking them longer than expected to get them ready. I cancelled it on principle. Apple shouldn't have told the world it would have been ready by a certain date when they most likely knew it wouldn't.
I'm sticking to my ipod>aV cable sollution.

Yep, for $449 you can buy yourself an original xbox, pay to have it modded and get yourself a huge hard-drive and still have change left over for a few slabs of beer and kilos of popcorn to enjoy as you watch it all

Yeah but canceling on principal isn't hurting Apple is it? just you as you will miss out on something you originally wanted.
I figure if it's delayed at least it will be right when we get it, or would you rather an inferior product and a chance to whinge earlier?
Fair enough when it gets here and isn't up to standard, than whinge, but until then I don't think we really have a foot to stand on?
I'll be taking a pic or two, just don't know how to post them!! hehehehe

Most people don't want to jump through hoops to get an Xbox working as a Media Centre, although it does a good job of it. It is a fraction bulky compared to the AppleTV too...

One thing I'm wondering about (and is holding me back) with the AppleTV is the whole audio issue as it relates to TV and film. These days thats in 5.1 (or better) Dolby or DTS (or lossless formats on HDDVD/BluRay). What exactly can the AppleTV handle? Is it stuck with just stereo?
Supposedly AAC can handle up to 7.1...but can anything decode that audio?

My order has been pushed back from shipping on 20/03/2007 to shipping between: 27/03/2007-29/03/2007.
This is getting beyond a joke now! I'm actually starting to lose momentum for the product and thinking about cancelling...but I've waited so long.
