Thanks for the Expansys link, I've just placed an order through them instead of the original site I linked...mainly because they accept American Express while the other site didn't.

Hopefully it won't take too long to ship, their site does say that it's ordered in on request. I'm looking forward to getting my B&W up and running on wireless, so I can move it into the home office

Smile PCI Update for BWG3

Hi Guys

I have a BWG3 with Panther which I want to network with my macbook (airport extreme base station). I've been reading this thread and some posts over at whirlpool and just wanted to get an update on where things are at.

After reading different posts I raced out to Dick Smtih and bought a d-link PCI (the only PCI's they sold at this particular store) which I was told "should work" - it didn't and so this evening, being impatient I rushed out and bought a Belkin F5D7000au, which, like others before me, is giving me mixed results. I downloaded the ralink drivers and while the interface says I'm 100% connected to my airport with a strong signal, I can't even connect to the net. Any ideas or should I just go and get my money back?

Is the Buffalo Uniden PCI mentioned in other posts still available/worth a try (the expansys link in a posting above says it's discontinued). or any others mentioned still working for people - Linksys is the only one I can think off the top of my head...

Cheers Chaps!

I just installed a Buffalo WLI2-PCIG54S in my 867 PowerMac G4. It seemed to work right away with the built in airport drivers but then I had some odd problems. First of all, I had problems with my second monitor attached to the NVIDIA AGP graphics card (this is a card with the old Apple ACD connection). It wouldn't recognize my second monitor's true max resolution unless I restarted without the monitor attached and then plugged it in.

Then a little while later, I had problems with the connection to my D-Link router randomly dropping and then being unable to connect again.

My first thought was that there is some sort of conflict with the NVIDIA graphics card. So I took it out, restarted and let it boot up. Then I put the NVIDIA card back in and started back up again. Everything seems to be running ok now but I'm not really sure why.

I saw in another forum that the high speed version of the buffalo card (the G54S, the one I installed) is NOT compatible with OS X but have read a lot of conflicting reports on this. It seems to me that it should work because it is a Broadcom chipset.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? BTW, I got the card at a really good price at Circuit City....$29.99 after a $10 rebate in case anyone is interested in giving this a try.

Here's an update:

I returned the Buffalo card as it continued to be buggy for whatever reason. I still haven't figured out why.

I found a report that the Belkin F5D7001 card has a Broadcom chipset while the F5D7000 no longer does. So I found the 7001 at Wal-Mart for a somewhat reasonable $50.00. I installed it and it works flawlessly. I also found that it is available on walmart.com for $10 less.

Airport Extreme Compatible PC-Card

Hi all,

Only slightly off topic, but still useful for the Airport Extreme (802.11g variant) deprived.

The ASUS WL-100GE type 2 PC-Card runs the Broadcom chipset and I can confirm that it is runs natively on a Pismo G3/400 external PC-Card slot under the Airport drivers in Mac OS X.4.

FYI, I managed to get one off eBay for a princely $8 (plus S&H).

Hope this is useful for all those using non-Airport Extreme enabled Powerbooks.

Kind regards,

JMD

Some PCI cards are available on ebay at the moment. The seller states and the feedback confirms that they work natively with macs. $60 + postage.

I have just installed a D-Link DWA-556 802.11n card in my "Mac Pro" in a PCI-E slot. It appears as a native Airport Card, using the Atheros AR5008 chipset (which is the same as the DWA-552 PCI version.) Hardware version A1 , paid $110.

I had been using a D-Link USB stick with the shitty Prasys drivers. Glad to be rid of it, it worked but was temperamental.
