So today i had a DVD drive fail on me. Don't worry it was just a PC.
My 3G isn't good up close and i'd heard of using the DVD optics for a macro lens so i thought i'd give it a try. here are the results. Flickr ![]() This is on a $20 note. Before ![]() After ![]() Not too bad. i'm looking into upgrading the blue tack for something a little more perminent.

Very interesting!
Just wondering what happens when you take a normal photo of a distant objects. or do you take it off when you don't need a macro?

That's actually really cool. I'm impressed to hell with that.

Click for full size - Uploaded with plasq's SkitchMy effort. The macro pic (inset — which is scaled down without crop) was taken only 2-3mm away from the $10 note. Any further away was completely blurry, and placing the lens directly on the note was not only blurry but blocked most of the light. I think my lens must be stronger because I couldn't get any shots further away. I have a shot with a signature on the note, but all you can see is the bottom loop of a small "L".
