Default Genius appointment today - what do I need to do to prepare

Hi,

I have a Genius Bar appointment at Chadstone 1:15pm today for my iPhone 3G.

It has a crack in the white housing between the mute switch and the screen bezel.

Warranty expires on the 22nd July, hence my reson for the Genius appointment.

I would be expecting they will replace the phone with a new or refurbished 3G.

I have already backed up the phone today and it has the latest software (it is not Jail Broken).

Do I need to take in anything else like the origianl box, etc or have I done all I need to do?

Thanks,
Geoff.

Nope, you're all good. Just be nice and point out your concerns, and let them draw their own conclusions. You should get a replacement without even having to ask

Just the phone.

Delete your MobileMe account (if you have it) just b4 they replace it.

Maybe make sure the details associated with your iTunes account are up to date.

Find a concierge in an orange shirt standing near the bar, and tell her/him you're there for an appointment, as an enraged gentleman next to me in Sydney discovered, they're not yet telepathic.

When you see the genius, don't fart. They get real upset with that.

Erase all data on it, but they will do this for you at the bar.

They will ask you to enter your PIN/passcode if you have them on.

In my brief experience at the Chaddy apple store, it appears the level of intelligence of staff increases the further towards the back you go. On walking in we got hit up by a clueless guy who is clearly only there to ask "how are you today?". Then we got to the Concierge and was amiable enough (and could probably have just fixed our problem, but that's not their job). Finally we got to the genius bar who fixed our problem (second replacement phone in two days).

I think the real challenge is to get to the concierge without being bailed up by one of what I call the "door staff". If you can do that you are a skilled Apple consumer.

Well, I made it past the door staff and hit up the concierge - one of them actually approached me as I stood near the genius bar looking at the upcoming appointments and then glancing at my watch.

I sat down with a genius about 2 minutes past the booked time and he apologised for being late!!

I had already made a note when I booked the appointment that there was a crack in the plastic backing - genius had a quick look, explained that although the crack did not affect the performance of the phone, yes, they were replacing them under warranty.

Replaced with a new/refurbed (how do you tell?) 16GB White and then unlocked it on the apple server.

He also explained the OS on the replacement phone was 2.2.1 - I would have to update the OS to 3.0 when I got home, then do a restore - did & did - all now fine.

The genius said my original phone was in excellent condition - did I use a cover. Told him I used the Neo Capsule - whammo, he pulled out his phone with a Neo Rebel cover - LOL.

and yes, I farted over by the earplugs section on the wall before sitting down.....

Great new that they replaced it. I've got an appointment on Friday, and hopefully mine will get swapped over too.

Do you get another 12 month warranty now?

You only get a 3 month warranty - otherwise I suppose you could come back just under 12 months everytime and get a new phone. Odds are there would probably be a crack in the case by then, but in 3 months, most probably not.
