Default HOW TO FIX: Multiple-SMS as MMS

Optus (Uses ‘yesinternet’ APN for data+tethering instead of ‘connect’)

Telstra (data+tethering uses telstra.iph APN)

Three (Also includes custom ‘3′ carrier logo)

Vodafone

Virgin Mobile

All include tethering support and the Multiple MMS fix, as well as the proper MMS UAProf settings, supporting images up to 1024x1024 if supported by your carrier.

To apply the carrier bundle to your iPhone, plug it into your computer, and go to the summary tab of your iPhone in iTunes. Option-Click ‘Check for Update’ (Shift-Click if you’re on Windows) and browse to the Telstra_au.ipcc file you downloaded above.
After that’s done, reboot your iPhone to ensure the settings have taken effect.
If you’d like to check to make sure that they have been applied, on your iPhone browse to Settings > General > About, and check the carrier. It should have a version of 4.5.

Click the image to open in full size.

Quote:
** VIRGIN & OPTUS USERS **
As Virgin and Optus use the same SIM cards, you can only apply one bundle of settings; you cannot apply both, and the most recent bundle will be the settings used. Therefore if you swap your Optus SIM with a Virgin SIM (or vice-versa), you'll have to apply the appropriate bundle.
For the other carriers, you should be able to update the settings on your iPhone without any awry side effects even if it's not the carrier you usually use.
You can find a more thorough write up at my blog: iPhone Carrier Bundles Update

All are 3.0 compliant (eg, they're based on the official bundles released from 3.0, not the earlier bundles for the 3.0 betas with redundant settings (enable tether/etc))

Enabling custom carrier file uploading in iTunes 8.2:

For OS X users, paste or type the following into Terminal, and then restart iTunes:
Code:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
For Windows users, please paste these into ‘Run’ (Press WinKey + R while on the desktop) and restart iTunes:
32bit –
Code:
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
64bit –
Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Haven't tried yet, but kudos for putting it together!

I don't know about the other carriers, but Optarse needs to fix the number formatting issue with MMS as well.

I have tried what you have outlined here but the carrier bundle (Telstra_au.bundle) is greyed out. I am running iTunes 8.2. Obviously I have missed a step somewhere.

No - actually I missed this:

Note: To download iPhone 3.0 ipcc file with Mac need to use firefox or speed download. Because of safari will unzip the file to payload not in ipcc file

Thanks for that.

Does this fix the problem of incoming MMS numbers missing the + at the front? (I'm not sure if this was in an earlier thread but I can't find it.)

If you use Safari, when in the appropriate downloads folder just remove the .zip off the end of the carrier.ipcc.zip so it just becomes carrier.ipcc. Worked for me.

I've copied and pasted into iTunes from the Terminal as stated, then downloaded the Three .ipcc file, but when I try to run that file, there is no application to run it. Tried it in both Firefox and Safari, still no go.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

Dean

If you have done the terminal command, plug the phone into iTunes, option click on 'Check for Update' select the .ipcc file and it will update.

Dean, what file have you downloaded. Make sure it's an .ipcc, not a .zip or a .bundle.

The .ipcc files are actually just ZIP files, containing a 'Payload' folder and a carrier.bundle file inside.

Make sure that you have an ipcc file, NOT a payload folder and 'three_au.bundle' inside.

Safari has a habit of opening and unzipping files if they're deemed safe, so try downloading it with Firefox or similar, or turn off the opening of safe files in Safari preferences.

iTunes will only accept .ipcc files.

It's actually a separate app on your Mac - go to Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app, paste the line in there, and then you can quit Terminal.
