How cool is the maps now that the compass makes the map face either north or the actual direction you are facing. So simple and so cool.

I keep discovering extra stuff. It's truly awesome.

Has anyone compared 3G and 3GS's speed in web surfing yet using wifi? (I guess it'd be difficult to test 3G since you have only one SIM card) Is the speed improvement really that great?

I'd say given the faster processor it would be pretty noticeable. I say would be because I can't afford a new one

Apparently it's not on there because it's not accurate enough, which is weird if you ask me. I've got it on my 3G and it seems pretty good. You have to jailbreak to get it, though.

I compared loading theage.com.au
3GS loaded twice as fast as 3G.

The "white on black" feature looks great until you need to view photos or pictures - they come up as negatives!!!

Anyone agree??

Love it. Glad I upgraded from the 3G, and also glad I could do it reasonably cheaply (around $350 after selling iPhone 3G). Wouldn't have paid any more for it however, as the major updates will no doubt be next year.

That said, stuff I *really* like:

The convenience of added speed - less 'checkerboard' waiting time when scrolling through web pages, instant page loads which are much faster even on wifi, I would probably even use Apple's marketing word.... It's just "snappier". It is, well and truly.

Battery percentage indicator - soooooo much more helpful now. One of those things I didn't know I needed 'til I had it.

Slightly louder and clearer speaker - doesn't distort quite as bad (the 3G's speaker was annoying with some ringtones), and it's a little louder, which is always a plus. Still not as loud as some phones I've had though.

Autofocus camera and video recording, for obvious reasons - awesome additions for me as I don't own a point and shoot compact camera, only a DSLR which I don't lug around everywhere. The iPhone's camera will certainly do for those in-the-moment shots, particularly of drunken friends. woohoo.

Oleophobic screen - I like it much, much more than the iPhone 3G's screen. I still use a PowerSupport anti-glare screen protector though. Just prefer the texture, it's so smooth.

Voice control - I figured this was a feature I could take or leave... But I actually like it more than I thought I would. Dunno how much I'll end up using it, but it's kinda cool just for the show-off factor. I've found it to be reasonably accurate, though sometimes it will pick up background noise and suddenly dial a contact because that's what it thinks I said. I wish you could turn off voice dialing completely, but unfortunately the setting only disables it for when the phone is locked. Perhaps Apple will change this at some point, as it seems to be a pretty large oversight.

1. Speed. It IS all about the speed. Even my work colleague who haven't really used the iPhone commented about the speed first.

It is snappier in EVERY regards. Opening/closing/loading apps. It's feels more responsive, but that could just be the processing speed.

2. Oleophobic screen. The screen definitely feels different. More silkier and remarkably does what's suppose to do! Simple!

3. Increase storage. Coming from a paltry 8GB iPhone 3G to the 32GB 3GS, it's a welcome relief. I can now load a few more movies and full albums instead of my fav tracks.

Because of those features, I must admit I do like it a lot, although there's not much difference/differentiation from my old 3G and probably doesn't justify the cost I paid to "upgrade" early. But strong features.

The other "features" are useless/limited. Compass. Great. An electronic compass. I haven't really seen it being used on Google Maps, but I can understand how useful that can be. But I won't use it (prob get turn-by-turn navigation. I'm not good with directions, let alone need to know true or magnetic north is).

Voice memos and video recording. Haven't really used these features and really don't see the need. I type faster and I hate the sound of my own voice.

Voice control. Wow, I was blown away when I used this first to call up my brother (kinda handsfree). "She" asked me which number, and I selected one and she dialed it up for me. It was brilliant (bar the rather odd pronunciation of my brother's name).

BUT subsequent tries at using it as an iPod control failed. DISMALLY. Could not play 'Madonna' or 'Killers', instead started calling people in my contacts. So not quite sure if I like this "feature" or just a incompetent "novelty".

All in all, quite satisfied...I think we all are...until the latest or greatest model comes out that totally supersedes this.

Oh, stop already, the lot of you! I promised my wife I'd skip this generation and wait for next year's model...

Cheers

I live in Brisbane but this coming week I'm in Sydney / Melbourne.

For those hating on the compass, you have no idea how useful it is when a taxi breaks down in the middle of Sydney's chippendale back streets in the dark.

Less than 12 hours from buying it, and it had already saved my neck once.

Also, the oleophobic screen has to be some crazy voodoo magic, it's so fucking cool.

Love it!

Like others have said, the difference in speed is amazing, even for something like getting the screen out of landscape and back into portrait when you've accidentally tilted the phone.

Totally worth the dint in my Credit Card.

So how's the battery life for everyone? That's one point I missed. The bigger battery will supposedly get you 15% - 20% longer battery life. I haven't had my 3GS long enough to really test it out yet, but so far I haven't noticed a substantial difference. On my 3GS, the battery drained far more quickly since installing 3.0. Looks like it's the same for my 3GS, though I did restore from a back up.
