so i am restoring my 3GS from a backup. It has been at halfway for about an hour - is it meant to take ages? my old phone had all 16gig used, so i guess there is a lot of data

Finally finshed, almost 2 hours and is now syncing

The iPhone 3G Dock is not compatible with the 3GS. How gay is that?
Went and bought one today but it doesn't charge it at all.
Is there a 3GS version available yet?

No, I am just an idiot. My powered USB hubs power cable had fallen out. Plugged it directly into the iMac, and also into a powered hub and it works fine

I'm not restoring from a backup with my 3GS (even though I only just did that with the upgrade of 3.0 on my 3G). I jailbreak my 3G with redsn0w and don't want any weird stuff going along to my new phone with the backup. Not that I have lost much stuff in a week.

Meanwhile, I can't sing the praises of Google Sync enough. Put in your details and joila contacts and calendars on the new iphone with in minutes of opening the box. And what's more, free. Okay, so no push email, but Imap is more than fine.

So does a restore from back up give me all my message conversations, missed calls etc from my 3G to my 3GS please?

I'm in Day 4 of Awe at the iPhone 3GS.

I was about to post regarding an inability to send mail from my primary email account, but by fiddling with the settings I seem to have resolved that issue. Now there's another, related one, however.

My primary email is a yahoo.co.uk for reasons I can't even remember. I've been using it for 10 years now. Perhaps because I've been using it for so long, when I send people email there's no Yahoo self-promotion text at the bottom of the email - despite the fact I've never paid for any sort of 'premium' service.

Now I've just got the same account working on my iPhone and I notice that this ugly relic comes through with the email:

I'd really rather it didn't. Does anyone know how to get rid of it or why it appears when using the iPhone but not when using my laptop?

EDIT: Checking the headers it seems that sending from the iPhone shows this as the mailer:

YahooMailWebService/0.7.289.15

Whereas sending from the latop shows:

Apple Mail (2.753.1)

does any one have an issue with iphone 3gs battery?? I just got one with the contract from OPtus...and i found out that this 3gs battery dies so fast..its like u just charge it fully and after 10 mins of using you will loose 5-6%..hilarious..and if u just surf the web often and make calls...u may loose half of them...plz helpppp???

I bought my 3gs in Us and I used purplera!n to unlocked it. It didn't work. Now I'm stuck at geohot's picture permantly. After I hard reset and re run the program, it will immediately reflect Geohot's pic again the moment i click on "make it rain"


What should I do now to bring it back to orginal state?

I hope this question isn't moronic... but I am an iPhone noob. Anyway, I notice that the phone doesn't provide a character counter for SMS?

In all my previous mobiles, I use to rely on the character count to make sure my message fit in one SMS (anal, I know)...

Am I missing some set-up or does iPhone not provide that functionality at all? If not, anyone know of any good app alternatives?!?!

iPhone 3GS

I first noticed on 3.0 that some of my music albums had the wrong artwork in list view, but if I rotated to Cover Flow view, the artwork was correct. Often the incorrect artwork would be artwork from a podcast. This is still happening with 3.1. I deselected Music in my sync settings, then synced to remove the music and then reactivated it again and resynced. It's still happening. I've checked the artwork in iTunes and it's present and correct and not faulty on my Nano or Apple TV.

Has anyone else noticed this?
