So, dumb Voice Control Question. How do you do it... do you just talk at the phone? I don't want to do it at work because I don't want to look like a dick.

![]() Why can't the iPhone have the same VoiceOver controls as the iPod shuffle?

Wow, browsing is just so much better. Mactalk was slightly useable before, but now it's pretty useable. remember when scrolling down the screen you'd get grey bits because it took a while to render it? That's gone.
Video Editing is just awesome, and video quality is amazing. Interesting to read on Macrumours that since release of the 3GS Youtube uploading has increased 400%! It's just a crying shame that for those of us on crappier allowances we have to wait til we're home to upload to youtube!

ZOMG! Telstra is better value than Optus for low end users!
I've just compared and contrasted the Telstra $40 phone plan with $10 data pack and a current Optus $19 cap on a two year contract. (I plumped for the $40 plan, rather than the $30 plan because it only costs an extra $90 over 24 months, but gives $240 extra in call credits and much lower call rates.) Surprisingly, Telstra looks okay for low end users... Assuming a 32GB 3GS purchased TCO Optus - ($19+$34)*24 = $1272. $53 per month Telstra - ($40+$10)*24+$399 = $1599. $66.63 per month So, what does $13.63 per month buy? First, Telstra gives you a bonus offer. To my mind, the best bonus offers are those that apply to all calls because you benefit every time you use your phone. Therefore I'd choose either per second billing (if I called a lot) or 50 free SMS (if I texted a lot). The value of these offers is 19c per call on average (38c per 30 sec call rate) or 25c per text. Personally, I rarely use more than 25 SMS, so effectively all my SMSs are free, and the $35 credit can be applied to calls. Second, Telstra offers 30 sec billing. Optus has just moved to per minute for their caps, which seriously reduces value. At 92c/min+35c flagfall, a wrong number is hideously expensive! Telstra charges 38c/30 sec+27c flagfall. I would get just over 16 2.30 calls on Telstra, compared to... just over 16 2.30 calls on Optus (assuming I used $6 worth of my Optus credit for SMSs). (Essentially then, the phone value is much of a muchness...) Third, you get more data. Optus offers 100MB, Telstra 160MB (I assume that with a browsing pack, the $5 data credit is applied at the reduced rate of $0.50/MB). Fourth, you get the best network. 850MHz 3G - niiiice (unlike Optus, whose Network, especially in Melbourne, is rubbish) It's a conclusion I never thought I'd come to: for me, Telstra offers better value than Optus.

Hey Guys,
I am still undecided which Iphone to go for. I am wondering if most people who have the new Iphone have notice much difference in the speed of of the new 16GB 3GS compared to the 8GB 3G. I honestly hope there is no other thread related to this. Thanks |

I upgraded from the 8GB 3G to the 32GB 3GS. And boy can I tell the difference! Not only is there a tripling of memory space, but the processing speed IS twice (if not more) as fast than the 3G. Yes loading and closing apps is noticeably quicker, but the real killer is rendering webpages on Safari. It is almost as quick as Safari 4 on my MBA using ADSL+2! You rarely see the "chequered" background when the webpage loads and you have to ask yourself "how did I ever survived on the 3G?" The other features are purely for novelty sake (digital compass alone, voice control, Spotlight), but the other MAJOR improvements include a much better camera, video recording and editing and the beautiful oleophobic screen! Definitely very happy upgrading from the 3G to the 3GS.
