I had the Gold Master, on which MMS did not work, so I'm restoring my iPhone and seeing if MMS will work out of the box.

Tethering link is still help.benm.at from the iPhone directly, to download the carrier settings.

I'm on Virgin using the GM, MMS works fine for me... in part. Whenever I receive a reply it comes from 61XXXX etc. Does this mean I have to change all the numbers in my phone to this formatting in order to RECEIVE MMS properly? I've searched but haven't found anything. Wasn't mentioned as a bug in yesterdays Can Touch This. Also group smses become group MMS? Are these both bugs?

The carrier settings aren't downloading from me (keep getting errors about not being able to connect to network IIRC), anyone else having the same?

I found an updated carrier file (newer than the one found on help.benm.at) that seems to have fixed the problem:

When I receive an MMS it doesn't display the name of the contact, just the number - even though they are in my contacts. I have sent one to a friend and the same thing happened. We have both entered our phone number into the phone settings, tried with and without the +61. Anyone else finding this?

The same used to happen for me pre-iPhone with my old SE K750i.

It only appears when you have "appropriate" apps installed. Firstly it wasn't there. Then I installed tap tap revenge 2. It then appeared. When I uninstalled it the notification option went away.

I had no problem with Carrier settings...

Further on the Message Name/Contact issue, I discovered that the name appears only of you change the number in your contacts to "61412345678" That's without the "+" which is stupid. I don't even think that is a legit form of phone number... This issue is going to have to be fixed.

I'm getting the same thing- pain in the arse.

When they reply to an MMS, just comes up as the number.

i updated both mince and my wifes phones this morn. Hers went with out a hitch and can send and receive mms. I can send mms but cant receive. My update froze during the updating carrier settings and I am thinking that has caused an issue with the carrier update. How do I re-download this file?

Download the bundle from here:
Optus IPCC

Quit iTunes, open Terminal and run the following command
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Open up iTunes with your iPhone connected, option+click on update and select the optus file from your downloads folder.

Thanks.... I notice this download (from the link above) is dated 2008? Am I right in assuming that itunes will then update to the latest release?

If that doesn't, work, try the link I posted before:

http://weave.zarack.com/OptusTetherv1.mobileconfig

It worked for me just fine.

YES! that fixed it for me and still left tethering options!!

Although it still shows the number as starting with "61..." for MMS
