I can confirm that my 1st gen iPhone on Voda updated to 3.0 without a hitch. Thank god for copy/paste and landscape sms mode (fat fingers)!
Youtube is broken though as mentioned in other threads.

Is is just me or is Vodafone's network faster over tethering than it is on the phone itself weird.

Yeh i found that too... I think it could be the way/speed Safari Mobile vs Safari 4.0 loads the page.

Yeah it wouldn't be the network, it's likely just the phone. This is good news if you plan on getting a 3GS since you should notice it loading webpages faster if the network is faster on a faster device.

Can others confirm tethering works without hacks? Wanna make sure I'm not lying to Optus before I mail off my complaint.

Anyone having problems with MMS on Voda? Mine doesn't work. I read on the Vodafone website that you should send yourself a MMS to activate the service but this didn't work. Any hints?

Scratch that. Changed my tethering profile settings (removed them) and now all is good.

Mine works but they take a while to send, one took nearly 2 mins! Be patient, they look like they hang but then gone.

Never had any dropouts on my Voda service. I'm on 2G though (3G iPhone).

Currently running 3.0GM on my phone with the Vodafone AU Official Carrier settings from Whirlpool. Phone seems to work fine, Tethering works, as does Visual Voicemail. MMS seems to spew out 2 errors every time I try to send something, yet the message is received just fine on the other end.

I consider this a success, but it's just odd. I don't think the issue is with Vodafone, most likely something i've done with my handset, but oh well.

All in all, very pleased.

So I'm on Telstra with an iPhone 3G locked into a contract paying a minimum of $250-300 per month on a "Business" plan and in that is the $29 for 300MB of data. No Visual Voice Mail.

The point of my post is I wanted to get feedback from Vodafone users as to the quality and speed of their network and dropout rate with calls. I'm thinking about paying out my contract and switching and getting the new iPhone 3G S at the same time if it was cost justifiable etc.

I have been on Voda for just over 7 months had no coverage problems at all, and get 3G coverage 95% of the time. I reckon around 90% of the time I get really good speed for data and so far not had a dropped call, however there have been 2 times where it just said "call failed", just had to call again and worked fine. Visual Voicemail was activated on my phone around 2 hours after i got the text message and I have been using MMS with no problems (yet). Most my usage is around the West, North and CBD of Brisbane.

Any Melbournites have experience on the vodafone network? Is it alright?

Also, am I correct in understanding that there is no data fees for 2g roaming on Vodafone?

What do you mean by 2G roaming? If you mean internationally then there are charges regardless of whether you're on 2G or 3G.

If you mean changing from the 3G Voda network to the 2G Voda network, as long as your account has an included data bundle, any data usage will come out of that. Once you've used up that bundle, you will be charged regardless of whether you're on 2G or 3G.

Great, yeah that's exactly what I meant. I'm on Three at the moment and any data I download while roaming is charged because it drops to Telstra's network during that time.

At this stage I think I'm going to go with Vodafone, they seem to have all of the iPhone's features working without any extra costs (tethering, VVM, MMS) and have better coverage than Optus.

Yup Aside from the few coverage issues I've had I'm really happy with my iPhone on Voda. I use mine set to 2G 90% of the time and I don't think I've ever gone over my 400meg quota so I've never had to pay.

Tethering, VVM and MMS have been working just fine. They can't be Telstra for coverage, but they nail them on value!

Why do you use it set to 2G 90% of the time? Is it coverage issues where you live?
Why not just let it bounce between 2G and 3G?
