I still cant seem to work out the BT. But having no problems with tethering.
So if anyone has some tips for tehtering on a Vista machine that would be nice. As the phone and computer seem to be able to find each other. And the computer lists 3 things it can share.
But the phone says not connected. I did make up a pass key though. if that makes a difference.

Note: when tethering on Optus and Optus' completely shitty network drops out (which will happen approximately 12 seconds in, then every minute or two after) your iphone will stop displaying the sexy blue "I'm Tethering" thingy... But it will still be tethering and draining the battery, so remember to switch it off!

And they seriously expect us to pay an extra $10 a month for this shit?

Could someone who has already picked up their 3GS confirm that this help.benmat.at method of enabling tethering definitely works on the 3GS. I can't think of any reason why it would work on the 3G but not the 3GS, but just in case...

EDIT: Okay, I can now answer my own question. Yes, it works.

I used the "Tether Me" one that scottsworld posted:

Tether me!
YMMV but it worked straight off for me. It explains how to do it on the page when you get there.

I have had pretty good speed results just then, with working MMS.

This is the method I used and then the results below.

1. Go to Tether me!
2. Click 'Enter an APN manually?'
3. Enter 'yesinternet' (without the ') into the APN box
4. Enter your email into the email box and hit send
5. When the email lands in your inbox open the attachment and install the settings
6. Do what I posted previously and the APN should read yesinternet
Click the image to open in full size.

I have two sims I use Voda and Telstra. Can I tether both of them at once or would I have to keep reloading when I swap the sims?
Thanks - Eric

Our DSL connection was down for a whole day on Wednesday while we were being upgraded to ADSL2+, but the data tethering worked a treat over Telstra.

Hooked it up to the MBP via USB and automagically worked flawlessly. However when I plugged it into a Dell Win XP it didn't come up. Meh...

Yeah I've had a bill since I started tethering using yesinternet, $59.00 exactly on a $59 cap.

Default Will new Optus carrier settings interfere with free tethering?

Hey,
I've just plugged my iPhone in to sync with iTunes and it's telling me that there are new carrier settings available from Optus.
Does anyone know whether this will break my tethering, or make the tethering visible to Optus?
I'm using the tethering config file from http://weave.zarack.com/OptusTetherv1.mobileconfig .
Thanks.

Can anyone on Telstra confirm whether "tether me" is the preferred for Telstra tethering and if it changes the APN from telstra.iph and that causes any issues regarding billing data pack use etc.

And oh it's for tethering to a vista laptop. Any issues there?

Check the front page - today's how-to written by Beau provides great tethering on Telstra.

Have you tried rebooting the iPhone? This seems to fix it for almost everyone. If this doesn't work, use the Tether Me URL above to re-download the carrier bundle.

Finally! I did it! I tried to download all sorts of stuff to get tethering working on Telstra when I noticed help.benm.at had a custom mobile config feature... so I tried that as a last resort.. just set it to telstra.iph with no user name or password with tethering turned on... done... simple... no idea why the various mobileconfigs I downloaded didn't work... but now I can use tethering... finally...
