Default Battery Percentage Indicator iPhone 3G S Only

Apple - iPhone - Learn how to use all the features of iPhone.

Quote:
The battery icon in the upper-right corner shows the battery level or charging status. You can also display the percentage of the battery charge (iPhone 3G S only).
Because the percentage indicator requires new battery technology right?

Sure, let's go with that. Sounds way better than "because it's just one more tiny little thing we're going to withhold to punish you for not upgrading".

... and addressed with "just one more reason to keep jailbreaking".

Well - that explains why it isn't in the 3.0 GM for the iPhone 3G.

That's also a fucking joke - there's no reasoning behind it, apart from "sorry, need to buy the shiny new one".

Apple (and countless other companies) have done this for years, nothing new here.

See also: 80Gb classic lacking Genius feature. For absolutely no reason.

Grrrr... I can understand if there's hardware related reasons as to why it can't be done on the 3G but if it's just software then boo to them!

Yeah and I think Voice Command and Video could easily work with current hardware.

I can't afford to upgrade until my bloody Telstra contract is up. QQ

And I have the 160GB iPod with no genius feature. Balls considering the highest capacity is now 120GB.

Who cares about a percentage? The graphical indicator is plenty accurate for me. First of all you don't know the exact amount of charge in your fully charged battery, hence you get a precise percentage of something you don't know. Secondly, the percentage of charge left correlates very loosely with the remaining time left to use the phone, since that hugely depends on what you're doing with it.

Cheers
Steffen.

Would you be happy if a laptop you bought didn't show what percent of battery life was left and just showed a small indicator?

I can see the point behind your post, however I raise your post the following comment:

Most people have had a year or so (in my case 2 years) without a % indicator. I don't mind.

I'm going to buy a new one - but not because of this.

Because I've been told I'm a vindictive asshole, I'm going to buy an iPhone 3G S only because of this.

As opposed to what? A remaining time prediction that fluctuates wildly between 2 hours and 20 minutes, depending on what I'm doing?

Cheers
Steffen.

I had it via jailbreak and just upgraded to 3 (not a DFU restore) - maybe that has something to do with it

Meh that's Apple.

Could be said that they didn't have to offer 3.0 to 3G owners but they did.
