I can't remember the last time I had a dropped call so I can't post a log for you but I think a dropped call is something more like what is above, as the cause value is an unknown error and from looking at more logs ceer values of '31' are missed calls.

In relation to the log that you posted earlier, I am not fully sure what it is if it was a dropped call I would expect it to have a duration value higher than 0.

Logs that look like this are calls you have made but immediately ended them.

Code:
11:27:14 +1000 ST [clm] disconnect: duration=0;cause=kNoError;ceer=0;txPower=-1;maxTxPower=0;rat=2;cgi=505:2:33503:31986

Ah, so items which are disconnects with cause kNoError are calls that I've purposely hung up - is that right?

If they also have a duration and ceer value of '0', yes they are calls you have purposely hung up before it has reached the other person.

Right, so assuming that kUnknownError logs are dropped calls, it's Terminal time!

- navigate to where you can see the Baseband folder in Finder.

- open up Terminal

- in Terminal, type the following: (note space after closing "):
Code:
grep "kUnknownError"
then drag the Baseeband folder from finder into the Terminal window, this should put a path in the Terminal for you. Illustration:
Click the image to open in full size.

- add a slash and a star to the end of the path, like so:
Click the image to open in full size.

- hit space, followed by the "pipe" key (I actually have no idea what it's actually called), it's the one above enter on the keyboard, shift-hit the key above the enter key on the keyboard), then type wc -l after it. Finally, should look like so:
Click the image to open in full size.

This command will then return the number of times your iPhone has dropped calls.

Bennyling that's awesome.

I've had 2, but I've only been syncing with this Mac since the Day I got it, October 14th Last year.

I'm with Telstra.

+1000000 internets to you, sir.

Looks like I've only had 20 dropped calls. Interesting, since I make about half that amount a day. Not too bad I guess.

Thanks benny,

I got 8 and I am on Optus, most of them would be when the phone doesn't ring on an incoming call.

I also see a load of these kind of entries, most are since I was stupid enough to put the 3.x baseband on the iPhone 3G. But they do date all the way back to when I picked up the iPhone 3G on the 11th of July, 2008.

Code:
og-bb-2009-04-07-stats.txt.submitted:7:17:01 +1000 ST [rm] reset: reason=modem reset;uptime=46;count=717;callactive=false;pdpactive=true;rat=2
log-bb-2009-04-07-stats.txt.submitted:7:17:50 +1000 ST [rm] reset: reason=modem reset;uptime=46;count=718;callactive=false;pdpactive=true;rat=2
log-bb-2009-04-07-stats.txt.submitted:7:18:39 +1000 ST [rm] reset: reason=modem reset;uptime=47;count=719;callactive=false;pdpactive=true;rat=2
Also the number of kUnknownError does not match up with the number of dropped or stuffed calls. So there must be other error statuses to look for too..

Hmm.. found it on Phoneview.. I think..

Click the image to open in full size.

Can I assume the "call duration - none" are the calls I never recieved due to dropped network?

edit: numbers blurred, thanks for the tip

I don't think so - I believe it's got more to it than just the duration. Specifically, you're looking at the actual "cause", which can vary from kUnknownError (dropped call), to kNoError (you hang up immediately after calling someone).

Also, the "ceer" value has something to do with it as well. No idea what, though

I would be blurring that image, if I were you.

wow. 'thread of the week' !!

i heard this tips last year, on some US podcast. (I forget which one now).
I got too depressed looking at the log (thanks Optus), and stopped... untill I heard the podcast where U guys talked about it.

wow. that was only the 2nd time i ever looked at the forums etc. As i usually listen to the podcast on bus to Uni, and never go online while doing it etc etc..

ps- iPhones really do NOT like water. Even when you take it for a ride at Movie World, having loads of fun (but getting wet), it is an ungrateful bastard.
it now displays a message 5-20 times a day "The accessory attached is not an official iPhone... click 'yes' to go to Airplane mode and not make calls, or click 'no' to continue".
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so annoying :-(

You can see the logs in the Console app.

Look at ~/Library/Logs under CrashReporter > MobileDevices

I got 20 on mine.
- hm, doesn't seem that bad now. I probably make 2-3 phone calls/week though on mobile, since Sep 2008. :-(

I was with '3' for 3 years before iPhone, and i can hardly remember them ever dropping calls. :-)
