Default Rattling noise in my iPhone 3G....is that normal?

Hello guys!

I got my new Iphone 3G since a few days. today i tried that Wobble Bikini app and while I was shaking the iphone it made a little noise in my phone. I tried it with another iphone 3G and i didn't hear any rattling noise. then i tried two more (but iphone 2Gs) and there was clearly that rattling noise.

My question: Is that normal and its just one of the sensors (for acceleration or whatever) or is it something I have to worry about? And why was there that noise with the Iphone 2Gs but not with my friend's 3G?

best regards
timo

That's weird! If there isn't anything wrong with it functionally I wouldn't be too worried. Guess that'll teach you to Wobble so vigorously from now on!

Mine rattles as well (iPhone 3G) It has done for quite some time and my phone has never given me any problems. Its only a very faint rattle when I refresh the facebook app, I assume it could be the accelerometer

I'd say the vibrator has come loose, traditionally their a funny shaped weight on a pole that spins

I doubt the accelerometer would be making any sound loud enough to hear as it's so tiny. It could just be a loose piece of plastic or something that's fallen in through the headphone jack.

Sorry I am from Germany...so I dont quite get what that means. Do you agree with that consideration or dies it sound a little bit unrealistic?

I really dont know what to do now...

Can anybody explain why this rattle noise was there in both 2Gs and pretty loud aswell. And it didnt sound wrong at all!
Is there a build difference between the 2G and the 3G in this sense?

Oh it's common, really?! Mhm...I am just a little bit scared that it could have an affect in future and then i have to pay for the repair and so on!?

If its common, does it mean it is common that some parts are getting loose or is it really something like the accelerometer?

Hah, another iPhone shaken to bits, courtesy of the Wobble app...

The 3G phones are easy to open, though, you could have a look what's loose inside.

Cheers
Steffen.

hey guys,

I 've read through some other forums, seems to be a quite common issue. Some people replace others live with it. In my case I dont think its the vibrator motor because its vibrating normal (compared to a friend's iphone 3g) and its really just a little tiny noise while shaking it vertically.

I will get over it and as long as its working well i should not replace it (never change a running system^^). Maybe the enxt has some dead pixels or something else!

thanks for your superb help!

best regards,
timo

It may simply be that the motor has become loose - it can still spin when driven by the motor, but its also loose enough to be spun by shaking. By the way, this is what a handset vibration motor looks like. A pole with a weight on one side

My iPhone 3G has a bit of a rattle as well. Nothing visually wrong though.

It might just be the sleep/wake button, volume rocker, or silent switch. I know mine rattles because of those buttons and one of my friends' does too.

Yeah my silent switch is a little on the loose side, and makes a kind of clicking sound when shaken.
