Anyone managed to do it successfully or miserably failed? Or don't even what to think about doing it? Share your stories!

Personally, just bought an iPhone outright from Telstra today , and I do NOT want to pay $150 to get it unlocked. Anyway, my next question is am I able to use the iPhone as a "glorified" iTouch by jailbreaking it using winpwn and "activating" it. Because I certainly don't want to buy a telstra nextg sim. And hopefully, waiting for the soft unlock to come.. who knows, it might even come before Optus brings the next wave of stock in. Or am I kidding myself?

Funny, Telstra last week told me it was impossible to buy pre-paid from them.

It is impossible to buy prepaid, but possible to buy outright. Those two things are different, cause the outright is just the phone itself with no services, so it kinda sucks.

you cannot yet unlock them as the chipset is different to the 1st gen iPhones

Watergardens Telstra Store. There should be some left, but if you go tonight and check it out, then there's a good possibility. But don't take my word for it. Good luck though!

Thanks for that tip. Not exactly in my neighbourhood but I'll keep it in mind.

Me thinks that telstra store may have pinched the allocation from OW Watergardens. Looks like a big wait at OW there.(from another thread)
