G'day MTAU!
A few mates of mine and myself shot up a bit of a video blog of the line up at the Queen Street Mall Optus store on iPhone 3G launch day (July 11th) and I've finally finished editing it. Also features a video interview with Peter (aka Phase on the MTAU forum...) which gives you an interesting insight into the man who was crazy enough to camp it out - even without a deposit! You can see it either on YouTube or my MobileMe Web Gallery. I'd say YouTube features far better image quality (amazingly) and has the added bonus of video annotations but only has mono sound (even on Higher Quality) AND for some annoying reason is applying dynamic sound compression to my already mixed audio which is causing the volume to annoyingly fluctuate louder and softer... thus the choice of MobileMe! (pick your posion )Please watch and comment! Enjoy! ![]() |

Great editing. The music matches very well. Go optus! and the mobile me option is way better than youtube. I wish I was there!
Telstra: You are pathetic! Go phase haha! Your crazy BTW.

Hey Jazz...have you got a stabiliser/steadycam type of setup too ?
What kind of camera ? FCE or FCP ? Just curious, ex video-editor here

To be honest, it was my mates camera... not a bad handycam, HDV and CMOS optical chipset but I personally like my 3 chip CCD DV camera... but I decided that the CMOS camera would be better on this project for few reasons - slightly more res (despite compression) and CMOS works a lot better under low lighting situations which was ideal considering the lighting at 5am in the morning is less than ideal
(my 3 chip is very light hungry, it honestly wouldn't have picked up any light at all that time of morning...) That said the cameras stabilization was on the so-so side (quite the shaky, as you can see) but it was not a bad camera - a very good point and shoot.I didn't take a steadycam with me (If I had found the space believe me I would have... LOVE the steadycam! ) but instead just ended up using the "Smoothcam" filter - a filter borrowed from Shake's high end compositing app... It's quite an interesting filter - it takes forever to process (esp if dealing with HDV footage, consider converting to Apple Intermediate as it processes significantly faster... talking about the difference between 22 hours and 30 mins). You can tell when the filter is being used on this project because the footage has this blurred camera phone look (due to the lower shutter rate - can't help that due to lack of light) but if used with a steadycam and good lighting that filter can work wonders...I'm talking too much. |
