Sorry I'm new to this.
What do you mean by restore. I don't have anything on there anyway. I want to put my 3 sim in and use that but the APN thing isn't coming up? Just get the VPN option etc. Is because i'm not doing a restore? I rang optus and they said because my phone in Post-Paid that it's unlocked already? |

Thank you everyone for your help. Thanks to instruction on this forum i was able to connect my unlocked iphone to Planet 3. Now the only problem is when I attempt to watch Mobile TV on Planet 3 Safari comes up with error that address is invalid. I just click on link, for instance CNN and error comes up as described above.
Does anyone know hot to go around this? Help with this would be much appreciated. |

Re the APN, the decision about if you can see those settings or not appears to rest with the carrier. nothing to do with if the phone is locked or unlocked. Telstra let's you see it, Optus and Vodafone don't, doesn't matter if it's a locked or unlocked handset. As three isn't an official iphone carrier, you can see the settings by default. Not sure about Virgin.

Ive been with three since 2003/04 and been really happy with them.
The only times I have a reception issue is when Im up at my freinds at Mt Macedon..then the 3 service slips onto roaming and I can still make calls so its no big issue. for a map of the coverage on 3 go here: Melbourne Coverage Map |

Remember that Three will give you $300 if you extend your contract and go on an iPhone plan with them.
They will also give you 2GB free internet. (1GB only on $49 cap) So you don't need X-series. You need to speak the upgrades department. They have special iPhone plans. You will need to pay off all handset instalments remaining, if you have any. The $300 should be enough to cover that. You will also need to be over half way into your contract. |

The fact that it disappears after a few moments is not worth worrying about it. If you really want it gone, disable voice-mail on engaged tone or jail-break and modify a plist (not sure if the plist is the same one as the one in 1.1.3/4.) |

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've modified hewball's original bundle to include the 3 logo rather than the word "Three". Follow the instructions below to install. You'll need a wifi connection, a computer with an SFTP and SSH app [I used Coda for both, but Cyberduck is free and will work for SFTP, and you can use the terminal for SSH]
Installation instructions: 1. Jailbreak your iPhone, and install OpenSSH from Cydia. Also, turn off the auto-lock so your phone doesn't disconnect the Wifi whilst we're doing this [nothing will break if it does disconnect, it's just a pain in the ass] 2. Download http://andrew.harrison.org/stuff/Hut..._au.bundle.zip and unzip it, leaving you with a .bundle file. 3. Use SFTP [or SSH if you're comfortable] to copy the bundle into /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/ on your iPhone 4. Get an SSH command line up and running and type the following commands from the top level folder to create a symlink to the bundle: cd /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/ ln -s Hutchison_au.bundle/ 50506 5. Hold down the sleep/wake button for 5 seconds, then use the red slider to turn your phone off, then press the sleep/wake button again to turn the phone back on The logo should appear once your phone finds the network again. |

Hi guys
I am having trouble getting the internet working on my iphone. I've added the "3services" to the APN setting with no username or password. i try using safari and it just says "unable to open the page because the server stopped responding" and takes me to this page "http://three.net.au/pserver/page.do?product=www&page=sesm" but i cant read it on my iphone as its way too small. do i add anything to the VPN? I got an x series service pack with 3 and checked my 3 page to see if its working (on my mac at work) and it is. Another worrying thing is i got the xseries pack on saturday, and i checked the usage on my 3page, and it says i've used 500mb when i haven't even had my sim in my iPhone :S can anyone help me please?

When you're using "3services" for your APN, you're on "three.net.au" domain, and you can't access "real" internet; apart from a few exceptions (access to some mail services, etc.), you're basically confined to "three.net.au" domain (it's as if you're on some sort of corporate intra-net). It's meant for "normal" 3G handsets (as opposed to "mobile broadband cards / USB dongles, that is).
For "real" internet access, you need to use "3netaccess" as your APN; that's what is being used for 3's mobile broadband modems. You're on "three.com.au" domain in this case, and you should be able to access all internet sites via Safari. You should also use this APN for using other application that require internet connectivity (Mobile Me push services, App Store, Weather, etc.). The flip side of this is, you no longer have access to "three.net.au" pages, such as Platnet 3 and My 3 Usage (i.e. pretty much everything on *.three.net.au); furthermore, in case you're using Three mail, you'd have to change your incoming/outgoing servers to "mail.three.com.au" and "smtp.three.com.au" (instead of their "three.net.au" counterparts). BTW, speaking of 3 mail, IMAP for 3 mail doesn't seem to work, and I had to use POP (at least for "3netaccess") instead. I think it would have been nice if iPhone provided some way to maintain multiple APNs and switch between them easily, but I don't really visit Planet 3 from my handset anyway (what's the point of Planet 3 when you've got a "real browser" in your palm?), so the only thing I miss is My 3 Usage. But then, I can easily check my usage from my desktop, and it's not like it takes an hour to change the APN anyway. :-) Hope this helps. |

I use 3services as my APN and I can access any webpage I want including the Planet3 services. I'm not confined to Planet3 either. I've also got my 3 mail set up as an IMAP account and it works perfectly. I don't think you are 100% correct Haapum.
