Default Those who had iPhones shipped from overseas

Hi. My brother is about to ship the iPhone through USPS express. For those that received their iPhones from overseas, what was the declared value for the phone? I'll probably want insurance on this thing, but also don't want to be charged by the customs for this. Of course he'll put it as a gift but that won't make a difference if the declared value is over $300.

Mine was sent as a gift from the USA, the value is written by the seller, I think the guy I bought mine off bullshitted the price to avoid the fees

The limit is now $1000, according to the Australian Customs website.

Ah ok. I guess the laws have changed a bit or I'm confused :P I always thought that the limit was $300. Thanks for the info.
