Default Dead iPhone

Hey All,

Question for you?

I got a new iPhone (im in Australia) , unlocked it, did the sim fix, all was sweet... it was working a treat. The only thing it didn't do was update my contacts from my old mobile. So I reconnected it to my MAC (running the latest version of ITUNES) and then the phone came up with an invalid SIM and wouldnt recognise my Optus SIM card (although it had done to start with as I made a couple of calls).

I used SIM anywhere to unlock the sim (an application that runs on the iphone itself).

So i thoiught i would just restart the whole process, restore the phone software to 10.02 and start again. This is where my trouble started. when i did this the update failed and now the phone just says connect to itunes and wont do anything else. Have I stuffed it?

Any help would be appreciatted. If anyone knows anything about this or where i can take it and have it fixed im prepared to pay! I just want a working iPhone!

Please help.

Thanks in advance
Jason

Tell us you didnt update your iPhone to 1.1.1? Latest version of iTunes being 7.4.3? Oh dear...now you may have done it.

SOunds like you are in recovery mode.
Not sure but it sounds like you restored with 1.1.1 - are you sure it was 1.0.2?
restore using 1.0.2:
http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/09/2...-firmware-111/

Did you unlock the phone yourself? Because that error can also happen when you run a restore and you don't return your phone back to jail first. Try running the latest version of independence, reset your phone (hold down home key and power button for twenty seconds)
http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/INdependence

finally, you should check out the iphone hackintosh forum for this problem rather than here as tehre are alot more iphone savvy people there :

Hi there,

Firstly THANKYOU for all your help here. Lots of good replies below.

Im not having much luck though :-(

Is the original AT&T Sim card needed i nthe phone during the entire process?

With the AT&T SIM i get the message:

Incorrect SIM
Insert & Unlocked and Valid SIM to Activate IPhone

I restored the phone to 10.02 firmware – but maybe its dmaaged the firmware o nthe sim card (the AT&T one) as I keep getting the following message:

The SIM card insrerted in this iPhone does not appear to be a
Supported AT&T Sim Card.

Only Compatible Sim cards are supported... blah blah blah!

And when I try and activate the iphone with the Phone unlock tool I get this message:

PowerMacG5:/users/jasoncole/desktop/iPhoneTool jasoncole$ ./tool --activate a.plist

2007-09-30 13:40:24.511 tool[4079] Your iPhone could not be activated.
PowerMacG5:/users/jasoncole/desktop/iPhoneTool jasoncole$

Basically im screwed I think! Soemthing isnt how it started.

When i first unlocked the iPpne sim card i could cancel the activation and go through to the new window. i dont get this option now and i have restored to 10.0.2 firmware (not the new version). im also running ITunes 7.4.2, should i be running an earlier version?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. When i run independence wiht 10.02 firmware it seems ot start wroking but then fails, and worse still eaves the phone in restore mode too. So i have ot do a complete restore each itme i try and use this program. Has anyone else had this experience and if so how do i get around it? is there a command line to unlock the phone out of restore mode?

People are reporting various methods to reactivate once iTunes has done it's dirty work. Keep reading and try other methods.

seriously dude it really sounds like you have 1.1.1 on there somehow. Have you checked your firmware?

You can check what firmware is preinstalled by going to the emergency call, entering *3001#12345#* then pressing "Call". Under Versions you will find what revision firmware is on the phone out of the box.

03.12.06_G Is firmware 1.0.0
03.14.08_G Is firmware 1.0.1 and 1.02
04.01.13_G Is 1.1.1

<edit> PARTIAL downgrade has been released, but phone side still unusable (note this part of my post was a cut and paste from hackintosh)

If you are lucky and still have the old firmwares then you can start your unlock by restoring to 1.02 by holding shift (pc), option (mac), while clicking restore.

1.02 firmware image:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....8_Restore.ipsw

follow this guide to unlocking it is very simple

@choy, you need to do some reading.

There is a method which will revert the 1.1.1 firmware back to 1.0.2, which Jason Cole has tried. It does not alter the modem firmware (which is reported by entering the *3001#12345#* code.)

Your right guys, im now running version 04.01.13_G Firmware, the new version. So now i need ot revert back ot the old version but from what i read it cant be done with full useo f the phone right?

Has anyone seen any tutorials on how to do this?

What a bugger eh!!!!

Thanks for the tip re the firmware too. Thats at leats let me see what firmware was loaded on there.

Ok so plan B, since ITunes has upgraded me to the latest version of the firmware (even though i didn't ask for this) ... I see there are a lot of issues in regards to downgrading the firmware (and how you can't downgrade the modem firmware anyways) - so the phone functions will work but not the actual phone itself until a 1.11 patch is released. Is this correct? I just wanted to make sure i was reading it properly before shelving the Iphone for a couple of months until someone works put a patch for it. very frustrating indeed. :-(

Thanks heaps to everyone thought for their continued support :-)

Actually Edge, YOU need to do some reading. Jason NEVER mentioned upgrading to 1.1.1. He had an unlocked phone, it somehow baulked after loading some contacts, then had an error indicating an inactivated SIM. From my reading from his first post it sounded like he had inadvertantly upgraded to 1.1.1, which has now been confirmed.

Jason:

Unfortunately you have bricked your iPhone. The only thing you can do is fix it so that wifi and programs will work, but unfortunately you will not be able to use the iPhone as a phone. That is until the dev team works out a way to hack it.

Here is how to do it:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/29/i...ions-released/

I would keep checking the iPhone dev team's wiki until they come up with a solution

Actually, I was responding to your incorrect information about there not being a way to downgrade from the 1.1.1 firmware. You've been back to edit your post to reflect that information.

The wiki is always days behind the times - this issue has already been fixed and documented on the hackint0sh forums.

6. Reflash Old Modem firmware using Putty.

(Elaborated)

Install SSh on Iphone using installer.app ot ibrickr or whatever you want. In ibrickr, i created a new folder called unlock, in this folder i uploaded bbupdater, ICE03.14.08_G.eep and ICE03.14.08_G.fls.

I then used Putty to connect to the iPhone and ran the following commands,

chmod +x bbupdater
launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
./bbupdater -f *.fls -e *.eep
launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Awesome, so the way i read that, i can totally downgrade the phone back to 1.02 and have everything work, even the modem / phone yes?

P.S. Is there anyone here from Sydney that would be interested in fixing this phone for me if i brought it to you? happy to pay for your time of course.

Jason, could I ask you not to post back to back against yourself. If you must post again and your the last poster. Use the EDIT button to add to it. Rather then post back to back against yourself. I've had to fix it 3 times now in this thread.
