MacBook Pro Memory issues

Hi there,

I am new to macs so i am not really sure what is going on here bu I suspect it is probably dodygy memory.

My MBP is about 3 weeks old, running 10.5.4. I just bought 4GB RAM from OWC (macsales) in the USA and ever since I put it in, I have been having problems booting up.

Initially after installing the new RAM, (yes its seated properly) I got kernel panics, took it into the mac shop and reinstalled OS and it worked ok for a couple of days.

But has gone funny again. It will get to the white screen with the apple logo and the spinning clock thingo and get no further. sometimes it gets to the blue screen after that but not past there. on the odd occasion it will boot fully but has crashed/frozen twice.

i've run extended hardware tests and disk utilities, reset PRAM etc etc. all as er the mac manual and OWC website, but it still plays up.

Just interested if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks Heaps

Oh yeah, and it runs fine when the original apple RAM is installed! No probs at all...

Good idea - should have thought of that myself - I'll have to find a willing candidate now...

Not sure how reliable is the modified memtest86+, but I'd give it a try..

Memtest86+ on Intel Mac

That version is patched to work on Intel Macs. Download & burn the ISO to a CD and boot off it to perform the test.

Welcome to MacTalk, atothej.

OWC are usually very reliable.

Run memory tests or try it in another machine to test as mentioned.

Or install 1 stick at a time - maybe one is defective while the other is good.
Run tests on each stick. Interchange and validate.

Use this program to test:
Kelley Computing - Rember

Good luck,
