Is my MBP out of juice?
Hey guys,
Recently my MBP's battery has been playing up, it often shows only 45min remaining on a full charge.
And this happened tonight
And that was straight after a full charge, what's going on??
My MBP is a Jan, 2007 model.

time for a new one - buy genuine and not a chinese knock-up
calibrate the thing properly initially and then each 3 months and you should get 3 years plus from it

Think of this as a learning experience, I can only hope that you got applecare on that machine (then you'd get the battery for free)

I found the #1 way to kill a battery is to have it on power ALL the time and never let it go through charge cycles. So if this is you, don't forget to run off battery every now and then, and to follow the Apple guidelines Jazzdogg linked to.

It's probably not going to fix it completely but try a proper conditioning cycle before you give up on it.
Reset the your Energy Saver System Pref so your machine won't sleep and then use the machine until it is completely flat, leave it overnight (or at least 5 hours) flat then recharge it completely before turning it on.
This has got my Macbook battery from "45% health" to "89% health" before.

you should be able to avail yourself of this.
Ring Apple - tell them you think your battery qualifies for the exchange programme and they will take you through a series of questions. You should qualify to get a new battery as your system profile is saying "check battery".
If they do knock you back first time ask to speak to someone else and say you aren't happy - keep whingeing (politely) until you get a result. I had to ask 3 times before they would replace mine but mine didn't have the "check battery" status. My battery was 15 months old - about 250 cycles and holding 47% charge. Yours is in much worse state so you should be right to qualify for the exchange programme.
Good luck.

FWIW Applecare does not cover batteries. You only get 12 months cover, even if you extend your warranty to 3 years via APP.

Thanks guys for all the replies, I will take it down to the new Genis bar once the Apple store opens, and see what they can do.
gilligan911 has advised me to get it replaced with the Apple battery replacement program, so I will definitely try that.

I had the same problems.....mine would only hold charge for 5-10 mins. I took my battery to the Genius Bar on the weekend and they replaced it after just taking down my Powerbook serial number. All up took roughly 15 mins.
Very impressed with the Genius Bar!!!

eehh... not in my experience... they gave me a new battery before they gave me a new computer...
ahh found the clause that is appropriate

Notebook Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your replacement coverage for a defective battery to three years from the date of your notebook purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan. However, the AppleCare Protection Plan for notebook computers does not cover batteries that have failed or are exhibiting diminished capacity except when the failure or diminished capacity is the result of a manufacturing defect. For MacBook Air owners, Apple offers a battery replacement service. You can purchase replacement batteries for late models of Apple notebooks directly from the Apple Store.

mine must have fallen into the defective category.
