I have noticed on the new powerbooks (I have the new 17") the screen has what looks like 2 small rubber feet at the top left and right of the screen. which I thought was pretty nifty, but I dont have peace of mind regarding the chipping of the screen by the keys.

I am currently using that nice bit of foam that came with the powerbook to protect the screen but its to big and getting annoying to put in everyday thanks to the edges curling.

What do you use to protect the screen from hitting the keys. I was considering the protouch 2 by iskin

Hey Benjamin - I recommend the ScreensavRz from Radtech. You can get it from:

With shipping I think it was around $40AUD.

I have used it since day one and my screen is scratch and mark free!

I have used absolutely nothing since day one and my screen is also scratch/mark-free! The screen marking problem went away with the demise of the TiBooks.

The surround of the screen doesnt even touch the keys, and the screen is set back a good 1mm so there is no chance of it scratching. Well thats on my PowerBook12" anyway.

yeah, its a non-issue. I find that if I use my XPB keyboard cover, this can touch the screen and leave a faint mark, but it doesn't seem to permanently damage it.

iSkin's ProTouch is great for keeping dust from settling under the keyboard BUT it is terrible for protecting the screen! If you get one make sure you don't close the PB with the ProTouch still sitting on the keyboard. It will touch the screen and leave very obvious marks - my PB had them but I managed to get them off, my dad however leaves his ProTouch on all the time and the marks are hard to get off.

An affordable alternative is to pop ino your local craft or fabric shop, buy a piece of felt, cut it to the size of your keyboard and there you have it.

It protects your screen from your keyboard and costs you about $3. I've done this for years and my screens have always looked great because of it.

I too have been using the piece of foam. The edges curling hasnt' been a problem for me, but once it does I'm just going to cut it down and use it over the keyboard and trackpad only.
