New MB and MBP designs coming Q3
So says AppleInsider.
Quote:
Of the two, the 13-inch consumer MacBooks will undergo the most significant metamorphosis, shedding their plastic enclosures for ones constructed from more eco-friendly materials such as aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel, people familiar with the matter say.
The move, which makes good on a promise by company chief executive Steve Jobs to push towards a "greener Apple," will also mark an end to Macs that come clad in the now tawdry looking white enclosures that began with front face of original iMac nearly a decade ago.
|
I wouldn't have called the white look "tawdry"... but I have to admit the aluminum is far sexier.
The article also goes on to mention that AppleInsider expects iMac and Mac Pro refreshes prior to the new MB/MBP designs.

About time for a model refresh.
The white look is starting to get tired, bring on the aluminum Macbooks!

I look forward with great anticipation.
(The style of the current iMac's (screen in front, parts behind, all-in-one) is old anyway, harking from the G5 days of old... When are they going to refresh that, huh??)

Pfft... the original iMac's face was 'ice' - not white!
I still love my (white) 500MHz iBook Dual USB with Combo drive.

Judging from the appearance from the MacBook Air I'd say Apple will be striking a similiar design for the MacBook Pro. Will there be a 10" and 15" MacBook and a 13" MacBook pro (with updated graphics card please!) in the works?

Still an Apple fan but cannot forgive them for pulling FireWire support from the MacBooks!

It will be a shame if they make the pro a "Wedge". For a start its cheating just to win in the thinness stakes, secondly, its ugly. They've gotta get some more venting on these (MBP) suckers somewhere though or inverted heatsinks or something to help cool them under load. 85-90C for an hour at a time is worrying.
And they can't replace the plastic with Aluminium. Its WAY to easily damaged for a Macbook.
Maybe Carbon Fibre or something?..... or... get this one.... plastic.

MacBook G5?
I'm pleased to see a increase in the Front Side Bus. I was incredibly close to buying a MacBook Pro on the weekend at JB, but decided to hold out. This is good news.

Wow, and I was considering getting a MBP over an MBA today, glad I went the MBA!
I think, however, that the new Macbooks will look different from the MBA/MBP, I don't think Apple will want consumers mixing them up.

About time, well overdue.
The black MBA Keyborad is a sweet design, that would be a nice addition to the MB and MBP line.... Minus the MBA tapered case design, not sure that would suit the MBP range.
Plus my partner is in the market for a new mac.... can't wait, hurry up Apple.

I was considering purchasing the 2.4Ghz Macbook Pro in the next coming week or two, but my MBA does me just fine for the time being, and it does make sense for Apple to re-design as it has been quite sometime, its kept the same form factor since January 2006, in which Apple have been known to update designs 18-24 month cycles, so hopefully by the end of this year Would rather wait a few months and get an all new MBP

Wow; it's amazing to see how many responses say "This is great news" or " About time".
This is a rumor readers, not a fact. The difference is real and important

Prediction: goodbye optical drives in all notebooks.
Moving to an external solution means more revenue, easier optical drive upgrades for users (i.e. you buy a faster speed or upgrade to Blu-ray when it comes out) and more internal space within which to work, thus affording Ive and the gang a freedom to play with graphics cards, multiple processors/drives and perhaps even an integrated 3G/EDGE solution...

Yes I think I've heard the same 'rumour' for the last 3 revisions of the MBP. They are always saying "the next revision will probably be a new design" yet Apple only bumped the specs up slightly.
Of course it will happen but unless they have some stronger evidence, I don't see it happening until the whole new Apple iPhone is out and about and then Apple will concentrate on new designs late this year.
