MacBook Air & Keyboard marks
So, I have a MacBook Air. It replaces a 2001 iBook (original white iBook). The white iBooks had an issue with the keys being able to press against the screen, and eventually leave permanent marks on the screen if you didn't put some cloth between the keys and the screen. Has this been a problem with the MacBooks? I don't want to put protective material between the keyboard and screen if I don't have to.

Shouldn't happen.
I have owned a MacBook and this doesn't happen. I think it happened on my old PowerBook 12" (G4).
My gf's Air doesn't do that either.

It sure as hell does that on my MacBook Pro: Simple lesson I learned from my Girlfriend's MacBook: Apple give you a synthetic sheet between the keyboard and the screen (when you unpackage) FOR A REASON. I kept the one for my MBP and no problems ^_^... apart from curling of the sheet itself.

Hmm, I've never had that happen to any of the laptops I own.

It happened on my PB12" but so far my Air has been fine. I guess that's part of the reason why Apple moved the MacBook and MacBook Air's keyboard design to a recessed keyboard in the case design.

I've personally got the MBA, and being the picky person I am, I still put the protective sheet of material that came with it everytime im not using the laptop, I don't find it a hard thing to do, and keeps dust away from getting inside the keyboard as well....

Haven't noticed it on my MBA, and looking at it side on when the lid is closed it doesn't look like the keys are touching the screen...

Scrren marks - take the spotlight option...
a square of felt from spotlight is 80cents
trim to fit either the MB or MBP
ALL notebooks which are regularly carried in a bag which is over filled have this iussue
the screen spacers are at the edges of the notebook, when the screen is closed and pressed in the keys hit the screen
lenovo/vaiao/DELL/and all the apples...they all do it.
but the distinguishing effect is the degree to which the notebook is jammed into a carry bag
very, very (very) common in schools, and with teachers..( Vic notebook program has constant complaints about this! - not covered by warranty-of course!!)
you get a choice of fifty colours too!!
though glitter probably causes a new set of problems
zebra is nice though

I don't understand how you could get marks on your screen, unless you had weight resting in the middle of your screen. The keys shouldn't make contact with the screen unless something is being bent out of shape.

The spacers to hold the screen away from the keys are squishy plastic. If you carry your laptop in a bag with other materials when they will be compressed by the weight and the keys will hit the screen. Oil/dust will eventually leave key shaped marks.

my circa 2004 powerbook and now my macbook pro have been around the world in all sorts of bags and the screens have never shown signs of impact with the keys - i thought that was an issue on some Ti PBooks and earlier iBooks (as stated by Silver), and hasn't reoccurred.
keeping that packaging sheet between the keys and screen is paramount to keeping the plastic on your new sofa!

I did have this issue with my macbook, but only when I traveled with books and folders in my laptop satchel. So know I use a felt lining on my MBP keyboard when in transit, better to safe than needing to carry screen cleaner.
