Cannot Connect to Wireless Network on Mac

Hello everyone, after speaking to apple support and finding out they would charge me 49 dollars to try and fix this, I thought I would try here first, and keep my money. I have a 17" macbook pro connecting to a home internet connection wirelessly. The two other computers (pc) on this have no issues. I have full bars on airport but it says cannot open webpages, going into the network settings it says for airport that there is a self assigned ip address. I have tried removing the airport icon from the side bar part in the network settings and making it again, making a new location, powering off all the computers/router/modem and I cant get it to work and I'm really stuck. I went and got the new updates I was missing also.

If anyone has had similar problems and could offer some advice I would be very very appreciative.

You probably need to set your ip to dynamic DHCP.

Are you on leopard or tiger?

Try typing this in your Terminal:

sudo ipconfig set en1 DHCP

Forget about the Terminal - doing everything on the Terminal is completely nerdy - you wouldn't catch Eric Cartman using a Terminal.

Click once on your Apple Menu and scroll down to: System Preferences...

In System Preferences, click once on Network icon - looks like a graphite crystal ball.

In Network, you should see that AirPort is the top selection on the left, is highlighted and has a green light next to it.

Now click once on the Advanced... button (look to the bottom right-ish of your Network window) - and a new window will slide down from the top.

Click once on the TCP/IP tab at its top.

Next to: Configure IPV4 - click on whatever button is there, and scroll down to: Using DHCP - and then click on the OK button.

You will return to the Network window.

Click the: Apply button at the very bottom right of the Network window, and then Quit out of System Preferences.

What is your Modem's IP Address ?

(It should appear in same TCP/IP window in Network, next to: Router - which is just underneath: Subnet Mask).

When you click the drop down on the Airport icon in the menu bar what does it say it's connected to?

I think that the router is where the problem is happening. I've got a sneaky feeling that you are not getting an IP from the router.

What router are you using?

Other things:

Turn off the router - turn off all the computers. Turn on the router and the Mac. See if you get a connection? It's possible your router is only set up to assign only 2 IP addresses.

ok so its set to using DHCP, then it lists this:
IPv4 Address: 169.254.41.5
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Router: *blank*

the modem ip is 192.168.0.100 i think but there is nothing listed next to router

it says "cats 2007" with a tick next to it on the airport drop down, thats the name for the network that the other 2 computers are working on, and its a d link di-624 router.

A 169 range IP address means it is not receiving a DHCP lease from the router.

You may be having problems connecting to the access point itself. When you connected to the access point, did you enter in a password?

Do you know what the D-Link's IP Address is?

See above in Post # 9.

Something like: 192.168.0.1

Just under Subnet Mask...

[AddIt: Have you ever connected the MacBook to the Router, via an Ethernet Cable?)
