MBP fan
Is there any way of turning ON the fan in a MBP? My laptop is really hot - 68 degrees C!
I had problems with the screen going black a couple of months ago (it seemed to fix itself), it's now gone black again (works ok on external display). I'd like to cool it down hoping this will fix problem.

Screen going black = faulty inverter or screen, mine did this and needed replacing.

You mean makes the fans go faster. They are always on but you can barley hear them.
Try this

Yea it's normal. What mbp do you have?
Mine stays around 45 when web browsing and msn and itunes. I set the fan at 3200 RPM for that
RIght now im watching tv on my mac with fans at 3200RPM and it's 65 degrees.
3200 RPM is good because you can just hear it and keeps the computer cool

I have this one:
Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Temp. seems to be going down slowly (around 60 now). Screen still black (can see faint images on screen). Atleast it didn't blow up, or melt.

What model mbp?
Do you have smc fan control like i linked above? Does it say both fans are at 6000RPM?
I had a faulty mbp and only one fan was working...

That can't be good. I suggest you take it into an apple store...

I'm not sure what you mean by which one I have? Where do I see those specs.? (sorry if a really dumb question). It's a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo - is that what you mean?
I downloaded the link you gave me and it seems to be cooling it down with both fans at the same speed.

68C is quite normal temperature for a MBP.

First gen MacBook Pros seem to have their smc fan controllers die out fairly surely; mine definitely has.
You can tell if this happens to yours when fan control apps say one or both fans are spinning at 0 rpm (although they will actually be spinning at 1200) and the normally-useless Hardware Test CD will actually detect a fault!

Agreed!
Definately an inverter or screen issue, mine had the same issue!
Pity that the new screen is as grainy as the old one
