New Apple Mac user - finally switched!

Hi everyone,

First of all, I've been reading these forums for a while before I ultimately bought my first mac, a MBP 15" C2D 2.4GHz.

I switched after using PC/Windows for 15 years and I've never looked back. I was one of those who'd never though they'd be using an Apple.

The final straw was Vista and after the horrible experiences with XP SP2 I basically had enough. The ability of the new Intel Macs to run Windows was the big reason why I switched but after using OS X Tiger, I've never needed to use Windows ever again!

Though my first Mac wasn't without it's troubles! The first MBP had a dead-pixel (completely gone) and had that promptly replaced by the friendly staff at Next Byte Pitt St Sydney (Hi Guys!). Unfortunately on my holiday to New Zealand I had my MBP stolen from my hotel room! but luckily my travel insurance managed to cover most of the costs and I bought myself another brand-newie while I was waiting for the insurance!

Anyways, I absolutely love the mac, the design and engineering is fantastic and whilst not everything is perfect I must say it's pretty damn close! I've since bought a mighty mouse wireless (it's fantastic and the battery life is AMAZING!) and the new iWork '08.

Great to be part of the Apple community. Hope to get more out of my Mac soon! (I'm actually now eyeing a iMac for the home)

Cheers!
Howie

A wierd thing with the light-up keyboard... When I use it at night under electric-lights, when I type and my left hand moves around towards the left-hand speakers the screen will self-dim as it thinks the room is getting darker since the light-sensor must be next to the speaker somewhere... I think the light-up keyboard is just Brilliant!

its funny, every time i hear of someone switching, they almost always vow never to use windows again, or they cant praise the mac enough.

Just shows how lucky we are.

i think its actually under the speakers, or that mesh anyway. During the day you can activate the light keyboard buy covering them with your hands.

There are sensors under both sides, at least on my 17" - I need to cover both speaker areas at once to make the machine sense darkness.

Have you ran out to buy Leopard or did that come with your new computer?
Congradulations on your Mac! You will find, like most others here, that it will continue to serve you well in the years to come. *hugs perfectly Leopard capable PowerBook G4*

Still an Apple fan but cannot forgive them for pulling FireWire support from the MacBooks!

My friend has a contact in Apple and he's said I'll get a free copy of Leopard! Yay

Hahaha but I wouldn't mind paying for it since it's ACTUALLY decently priced and it'd crap all over Vista... Now for the first time I pay for my software

Yeah, my 10.5 was the first PAID for operating system I ever got HAHAHAHAHA, and this guy I know at a JB Hi-Fi that sells Macs sold it to me at cost (supposedly cost is $130), either way it's way better than paying $158.

But even then, it's FARRRRRRRRR CHEAPER than any of the Vista packages.

THANK YOU APPLE!!

Yeah I'm of the exact same view - it only costs $158 to buy the software, compared to Windows' ridiculous pricing/version scheme.

I haven't looked back since I bought my MBP, and after installing Leopard, removed my BootCamp partition. I just use Parallels for any windows apps I need to run.
