2 External Screens from Dual-Link DVI Port on MBP?
Hey,
I'm curious as to wether it's possible to run say...2x22" LCD's from the 1 Dual Link DVI port on my Intel MacBook Pro.
I've seen the Magma external boxes, but I was hoping for a cable - single DVI to Dual DVI. If that's not possible then are there any DVI ExpressCards? Obviously the solution needs to support 2x22" running at 1680x1050.
Hope someone can shed some light.

Dual link DVI is just that, DVI with more pins. It's not "dual monitor" or anything like that.
I've never seen an ExpressCard video card with DVI, but it ought to be possible.

We have one of the Matrox Dual Head2Go boxes, and yes I know it is a box, but it is a solution that works fine.

Coaxus: your only solution to get two external screens on a MacBook Pro is a Matrox DualHead2Go which will set you back a shade under A$300.

I'm hoping that Village Tronic will release an ExpressCard34 version of their VTBook ( http://www.villagetronic.com/vtbook/index.html).
I emailed them at the end of last year asking if they were going to release one, to which they replied reasonably quickly with something along the lines of "very interested in updating their product range to include MacBook Pro support" but didn't mention anything specific or any sort of time range.
I'm not holding my breath...

Thanks heaps for the replies guys, and especially to Brains for even including images.
Looks like this is my only option, and not too expensive either. Thanks once again.

the max resolution on that matrox dual head thing isnt very good ...you would get more pixels just using one 30" screen at 2560x1600

Aye, that's a limitation caused by the GMA950 graphics chip the MacBook uses.
beattz: you're aware that the MacBook doesn't have an ExpressCard slot?

I could have sworn I was reading about PCI Express external video cards a while back...
However, pre-Intel machines, there were external PCI cases that plugged in to a laptop via a card. There surely has to be a similar PCI Express box available by now.

is this what your talking about?
http://www.magma.com/products/pciexp...x1/prices.html
only an x1 slot, need x8 or x16 for most videocards i think.
im pretty sure express34 could only handle a x1 bandwidth.

Well aware.
As tripwu pointed out, Coaxus has a MacBook Pro.
Those Magma boxes are interesting, Ive never seen that kind of ExpressCard expansion device before. They would be quite flexible, but damn theyre expensive...

That's obscenely expensive for something which isn't much more than a breakout box and pin converter.
