Personally I'd have to say that taking your IT to bed is unhealthy however I say that in the knowledge that the world is a safer place given that I prefer to keep my 24 inches out on the dining room table and away from the mattress . Now here's a thought, the 'iSutra'. A book detailing the many positions for using your laptop in the bedroom.

Stick with the book , you will soon get over the novelty. Beds for sleeping. Which reminds me, it's way past MY bedtime. Goodnight!

we use one of those wooden placemats [particleboard?], cause it's thin, strong, and doesn't conduct the heat or block the vents [in a 12" PB]..

I usually use one of my kid's reference books or a sturdy placemat.

Anything that is solid enough to remain flat to ensure that the laptop breathes nicely.

Firstly - have you asked the computer if it wants to be in bed with you?
What about one of those bedside trolley tables that one sees in hospitals? They slide under the bed and only have a leg for support on one side of the table and you can fit not just a laptop but a jug of water and some plastic flowers in a vase, a small fruit bowl for grapes and a couple of new ideas.

I use a "stable table". nice firm surface so my MBP doesn't overheat, and a soft malible base for comfort. works a treat.

Collins Diary (old one) no 141 is just the right size for an iBook 12 inch, and is firm enough not to bend. I'm using it right now. (I think I'll end there - 12 inch, firm, starting to sound risque,)

I opened the french doors in my bedroom this morning and guess what? There's sunshine and life going on out there. Put your Mac down, go out and enjoy some of it.
