Question for Apple Resellers...
Any idea what is going on with stock levels atm? I've had a replacement battery ordered for a while now but Apple seem to be out of stock. It's pretty bad for Apple to not keep batteries in stock when there are known problems with them. Lift your game Apple!

Yes!
Why is it I have to wait two weeks for a MacBook Pro?
I ordered it (with an EDU discount) on Friday afternoon and they say you should receive it by the 31st? That sucks.
Is that a really careful estimate, should I be expecting it sooner?
Thanks.
Why oh why don't Apple allow resellers to give an EDU discount anymore. I'd be browsing the forums on that baby right now.

I don't think 2 weeks is THAT long to wait for it to arrive.. considering where it's coming from and all that.. if it was a month, that'd be a different story..

I placed an order with Apple online store on Sunday for 2.2 Ghz MBP - same here estimated ship date 31/7.
Rang several dealers today and spoke to Apple store in person, and yes, there is a shortage of 1.5 inch 2.2 ghz MBPs. They are hardest to get right now. Several reasons - back to school season in the US and 120, 160 and 200 GB hard drive shortage.
Be patient

I rang around Canberra last weekend - and found one at Dick Smith Powerhouse!
I was actually wanting the 2.4GHz with the larger hard drive...
but when I got there had trouble paying the extra $700 for an extra 0.2GHz, extra 40GB HDD, and extra 128MB video memory.
So I walked out with the standard 2.2GHz MBP!
Will most likely put an extra 2GB RAM in it at some point (when it doesn't cost me $1000) and put a bigger hard drive in it too.

I've been waiting almost 3 weeks now for my 15" 2.4G MBP through streetwise (after reading favourable reviews about the reseller and their good prices) ... the only information I've had is when I've prodded them:
"Our Apple representative told us a few days ago that all MacBook Pro 15" models will be in extremely short supply over the next 3 months, but we have heard no news regarding an estimate on the time of arrival of the forty or so we have on backorder. As soon as we hear something, we can pass the information on to you.
Here's how it's looking: last week we checked Apple Australia's backorder; 1600 units of the 15" 2.4GHz models were on order with only 58 units to arrive into the country." I think I should have taken the $$ hit and gone through Apple.

I've noticed that it now says 'Prepared for shipment' on my order status page. It's still a long way from the 31st.. maybe this is a good thing?

psynix, ordering from Apple direct would not make a difference when there is no computers in the country at all. The problem is at Apple not at Streetwise. EVERYONE is in the same boat.

Yes, your same-price 3GHz MBP is almost ready.
